Kyrgyzstan witnessed a remarkable deal that caught the attention of farmers and social media users, after a ram of the (Arashan) breed was sold for a price that reached one million dollars, an unprecedented figure for sheep trading in the region.
According to circulating information, the ram is the son of (Frankel); one of the most famous rams of the breed, which was sold years ago in Kazakhstan for 150 thousand dollars, and was considered the most expensive in the region at that time.
The deal took place during a festival dedicated to the development of the (Arashan) breed, which included breeders from Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan; according to the Kyrgyz Ministry of Agriculture, in an event aimed at showcasing the breed and improving its production.
The (Arashan) breed is one of the most prominent Kyrgyz breeds, known for its massive size and weight that can exceed 200 kilograms. Its origins trace back to crossbreeding operations that began in the 1970s between Tajik "Hisar" sheep and local sheep, before it was officially registered as an independent breed in 2021.
The deal reflects the growing interest in high-quality breeds in Central Asia, where the trade of excellent sheep has been witnessing record prices amid farmers competing to acquire the best rams to improve production.
