شلَّ عشرات الملثمين (السبت) حركة ميناء دوفر، الواقع في مقاطعة كينت جنوب بريطانيا، بحسب وسائل إعلام بريطانية.
ونُشرت مقاطع مصورة تظهر أشخاصاً بلباس أسود موحد، وقد أخفوا وجوههم بأقنعة، متجمعين في الميادين الرئيسية قرب الميناء الدولي اليوم، ما أدى إلى عرقلة حركة المرور.
وذكرت شرطة كينت أنها على علم بالاحتجاجات الجارية وتتفاوض مع المتظاهرين، حيث لا تزال دوافعهم ومطالبهم مجهولة، فيما قالت سلطات دوفر في بيان إن الاحتجاجات منعت سائقي السيارات من دخول الميناء أو مغادرته.
وحذرت السلطات شركات العبارات العاملة إلى فرنسا عملاءها من احتمال حدوث اضطرابات في الخدمة.
ويعد ميناء دوفر البوابة البحرية الرئيسية للمملكة المتحدة إلى أوروبا، وأكبر ميناء دولي للعبّارات في البلاد، ويتعامل الميناء مع بضائع بقيمة تقارب 144 مليار جنيه إسترليني (196 مليار دولار أمريكي) سنوياً، أي ما يعادل ثلث إجمالي تجارة المملكة المتحدة مع الاتحاد الأوروبي تقريباً.
Dozens of masked individuals disrupted the operation of the Port of Dover, located in Kent County, southern Britain, on Saturday, according to British media.
Video clips were published showing people in matching black attire, with their faces concealed by masks, gathering in the main squares near the international port today, which led to traffic disruptions.
The Kent Police stated that they are aware of the ongoing protests and are negotiating with the demonstrators, as their motives and demands remain unknown. Meanwhile, Dover authorities said in a statement that the protests have prevented drivers from entering or leaving the port.
Authorities warned ferry companies operating to France to inform their customers about the possibility of service disruptions.
The Port of Dover is the UK's main maritime gateway to Europe and the largest international ferry port in the country, handling goods worth nearly £144 billion ($196 billion) annually, which is equivalent to about a third of the UK's total trade with the European Union.
