توعد الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب اليوم (الإثنين) بالرد على أي هجوم إيراني يستهدف القوات الأمريكية في الأردن، مؤكداً أن الولايات المتحدة ستوجه ضربة قوية للإيرانيين.
ونقلت قناة «فوكس نيوز» عن ترمب قوله: «إن الولايات المتحدة اعترضت جميع الصواريخ الإيرانية التي أطلقتها طهران أمس باستثناء صاروخ واحد لم يشكل خطراً»، موضحاً أن الإيرانيين يرغبون بشدة في عقد لقاء.
وشكك ترمب في إمكانية الوثوق بالإيرانيين لإبرام اتفاق، مبيناً أن العقوبات الأمريكية الحالية المفروضة على النظام الإيراني بدأت تؤتي ثمارها بقوة.
وقال ترمب إن إيران أصبحت دولة فاشلة، معتبراً أنها تعاني ضعفاً في قدراتها العسكرية وتدهوراً اقتصادياً حاداً.
ولفت ترمب في تدوينات على منصته «تروث سوشيال» إلى أن السلطات الإيرانية غير قادرة على دفع رواتب الجنود ورجال الشرطة، بينما تشهد ارتفاعاً للتضخم وتفقد العملة المحلية قيمتها.
واتهم الرئيس الأمريكي طهران بقمع الاحتجاجات وقتل المتظاهرين، داعياً إلى محاسبة المسؤولين عن ذلك. وانتقد ترمب ما وصفها بـ«الأخبار الزائفة» و«الأكاذيب» المرتبطة بإيران.
من جانبه، قال وزير الخزانة الأمريكي سكوت بيسنت، (الإثنين)، إن إيران تأخذ العقوبات الأمريكية المفروضة عليها على محمل الجد، وإنها ترد الآن لأنها تتكبد خسائر اقتصادية، مضيفاً: «أعتقد أنهم يردون بقوة لأنهم يخسرون اقتصادياً».
في المقابل، قال مصدر إيراني كبير لوكالة «رويترز» اليوم إن الأعمال القتالية التي اندلعت ليلاً بين الولايات المتحدة وإيران مواجهة محدودة.
U.S. President Donald Trump vowed today (Monday) to respond to any Iranian attack targeting American forces in Jordan, asserting that the United States will deliver a strong blow to the Iranians.
Fox News reported Trump as saying: "The United States intercepted all Iranian missiles launched by Tehran yesterday except for one missile that did not pose a threat," explaining that the Iranians are very eager to hold a meeting.
Trump expressed doubt about the possibility of trusting the Iranians to reach an agreement, indicating that the current U.S. sanctions imposed on the Iranian regime are beginning to yield strong results.
Trump stated that Iran has become a failed state, considering that it suffers from weakness in its military capabilities and severe economic decline.
He pointed out in posts on his platform "Truth Social" that the Iranian authorities are unable to pay the salaries of soldiers and police officers, while experiencing rising inflation and losing the value of the local currency.
The U.S. president accused Tehran of suppressing protests and killing demonstrators, calling for accountability for those responsible. Trump criticized what he described as "fake news" and "lies" related to Iran.
For his part, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Piesen said on Monday that Iran is taking the U.S. sanctions imposed on it seriously, and that it is responding now because it is incurring economic losses, adding: "I believe they are responding strongly because they are losing economically."
In contrast, a senior Iranian source told Reuters today that the fighting that broke out overnight between the United States and Iran is a limited confrontation.
