دعا السيناتور الجمهوري تيد كروز، الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب إلى الانتقال إلى مرحلة أكثر طموحًا تتمثل في تسليح المتظاهرين الإيرانيين والأكراد بهدف إسقاط النظام، معلنا تأييده لتأكيد ترمب أن «المهمة أُنجزت» عسكريًا في إيران.
وقال كروز لشبكة «NBC الأمريكية إن بي سي»، أمس الأحد، إن الولايات المتحدة حققت الأهداف العسكرية الأساسية التي حددتها إدارة ترمب، مؤكدًا أن تدمير القدرات العسكرية الإيرانية تحقق بشكل قاطع.
واعتبر أن الحرب تضمنت مهمات متعددة، مشيرا إلى أن المهمة العسكرية الأولى كانت تدمير القدرات العسكرية الإيرانية.
وأشار إلى أن مخزون الصواريخ الباليستية دُمّر تقريبًا بالكامل.. مخزون الطائرات المسيّرة دُمّر تقريبًا بالكامل.. قدرات تصنيع المسيّرات والصواريخ الباليستية سُوّيت بالأرض. سلاح الجو أصبح حطامًا على المدرج. البحرية غرقت في قاع المحيط. وكثير من القيادة العليا أُزيلت.
وأفاد السيناتور الجمهوري بأن الحصار البحري يفرض على إيران تكلفة اقتصادية يومية تقدر بنحو 500 مليون دولار، معتبرًا أن الاقتصاد الإيراني أصبح في حالة انهيار حر.
وقال إن تحقيق الأهداف العسكرية لا ينبغي أن يمثل نهاية الحملة الأمريكية، داعيًا إلى جعل إسقاط النظام الإيراني الهدف طويل الأمد.
وطالب الرئيس ترمب والإدارة بتسليح المتظاهرين، والأكراد لإزالة هذا النظام. وشدد كروز على أنه لا يدعو إلى نشر قوات أمريكية برية داخل إيران، وإنما إلى تسليح وتمكين الإيرانيين أنفسهم من مواجهة النظام.
وبرر موقفه بأن النظام الإيراني قتل، وفق تقديراته، ما بين 10 آلاف و40 ألف متظاهر منذ بداية النزاع، مضيفًا: ليس من العدل أن نتوقع من متظاهر إيراني يقف بحجر أن يواجه جنودًا يحملون رشاشات.
وتأتي تصريحات كروز في وقت يتصاعد فيه الجدل داخل الحزب الجمهوري حول مستقبل الحرب مع إيران، بين تيار يرى أن واشنطن حققت أهدافها العسكرية ويجب أن تنتقل إلى الضغط الاقتصادي، وآخر يطالب بإنهاء الحرب أو الحصول على تفويض واضح من الكونغرس.
وكان كروز من أبرز المنتقدين الجمهوريين للتفاهم السابق مع إيران في يونيو، محذرًا من إعادة الأموال أو رفع العقوبات قبل الحصول على تنازلات نووية حقيقية.
Republican Senator Ted Cruz has called on U.S. President Donald Trump to move to a more ambitious phase that involves arming Iranian and Kurdish protesters with the aim of overthrowing the regime, announcing his support for Trump's assertion that "the mission is accomplished" militarily in Iran.
Cruz told NBC News yesterday, Sunday, that the United States has achieved the core military objectives set by the Trump administration, emphasizing that the destruction of Iranian military capabilities has been decisively accomplished.
He considered that the war involved multiple missions, noting that the primary military mission was the destruction of Iranian military capabilities.
He pointed out that the stockpile of ballistic missiles has been almost completely destroyed... the stockpile of drones has been almost completely destroyed... the manufacturing capabilities of drones and ballistic missiles have been leveled to the ground. The air force has become wreckage on the runway. The navy has sunk to the bottom of the ocean. And much of the high command has been removed.
The Republican senator reported that the naval blockade imposes an economic cost on Iran estimated at about $500 million daily, considering that the Iranian economy has entered a state of free fall.
He stated that achieving military objectives should not represent the end of the American campaign, calling for the overthrow of the Iranian regime to be the long-term goal.
He urged President Trump and the administration to arm the protesters and the Kurds to remove this regime. Cruz emphasized that he is not calling for the deployment of U.S. ground troops inside Iran, but rather to arm and empower the Iranians themselves to confront the regime.
He justified his position by stating that the Iranian regime has killed, according to his estimates, between 10,000 and 40,000 protesters since the beginning of the conflict, adding: It is not fair to expect an Iranian protester standing with a stone to confront soldiers armed with rifles.
Cruz's statements come at a time when debate is escalating within the Republican Party regarding the future of the war with Iran, between a faction that believes Washington has achieved its military objectives and should move to economic pressure, and another that calls for ending the war or obtaining a clear mandate from Congress.
Cruz was one of the most prominent Republican critics of the previous understanding with Iran in June, warning against returning funds or lifting sanctions before obtaining real nuclear concessions.
