قُتل ضابط شرطة وأصيب آخر، فيما لقي مشتبه به مقتله، خلال تبادل لإطلاق النار وقع أمس (السبت) قرب متنزه في مدينة كولومبيا بولاية ساوث كارولاينا الأمريكية.
وقال قائد شرطة كولومبيا ويليام هولبروك، خلال مؤتمر صحفي اليوم، إن الحادث بدأ عندما استجابت الشرطة لبلاغ بشأن نزاع بين شخصين، قبل أن يعثر أحد الضباط على المشتبه به بالقرب من مركبة تتطابق مع الأوصاف المقدمة، فيما وصل ضابط آخر إلى الموقع لتقديم الدعم.
وأوضح هولبروك أن تبادل إطلاق النار أسفر عن مقتل أحد الضابطين وإصابة الآخر، الذي وُصفت حالته بالمستقرة، إضافة إلى مقتل المشتبه به.
وتولت إدارة إنفاذ القانون في ساوث كارولاينا التحقيق في ملابسات الحادث، فيما أكدت الشرطة عدم وجود تهديد مستمر للجمهور.
وبحسب بيانات مكتب التحقيقات الفيدرالي الأمريكي (إف بي آي)، استمرت الاعتداءات على عناصر إنفاذ القانون أثناء أداء مهامهم عند معدلات مرتفعة، إذ سجلت الجهات الأمنية 90178 اعتداءً على ضباط خلال عام 2025، وهو أعلى معدل خلال عشر سنوات، فيما قُتل 53 ضابطاً عمداً أثناء الخدمة، وكانت الأسلحة النارية الأكثر استخداماً في حوادث القتل.
A police officer was killed and another injured, while a suspect was also killed during a shootout that occurred yesterday (Saturday) near a park in Columbia, South Carolina, USA.
Columbia Police Chief William Holbrook stated during a press conference today that the incident began when police responded to a report of a dispute between two individuals, before one of the officers found the suspect near a vehicle matching the provided descriptions, while another officer arrived at the scene to provide support.
Holbrook explained that the exchange of gunfire resulted in the death of one officer and the injury of the other, whose condition was described as stable, in addition to the death of the suspect.
The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division is investigating the circumstances of the incident, while police confirmed that there is no ongoing threat to the public.
According to data from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), assaults on law enforcement officers while performing their duties remained at high rates, with law enforcement agencies recording 90,178 assaults on officers during the year 2025, the highest rate in ten years, while 53 officers were intentionally killed while on duty, with firearms being the most commonly used weapons in these killings.
