أطلقت كوريا الشمالية اليوم (الخميس) صاروخاً باليستياً قصير المدى باتجاه المياه قبالة ساحلها الشرقي في أحدث سلسلة من التجارب الصاروخية التي أجرتها هذا العام، وفقاً لما ذكره الجيش الكوري الجنوبي.
وذكرت هيئة الأركان المشتركة الكورية الجنوبية في بيان أن الجيش رصد عملية الإطلاق من منطقة وونسان الساحلية الشرقية لكوريا الشمالية نحو الساعة الخامسة مساءً (09:00 بتوقيت غرينتش)، موضحاً أن الجيش الكوري الجنوبي عزز قدراته الاستطلاعية وينسق بشكل وثيق مع الولايات المتحدة واليابان.
وأفادت وزارة الدفاع اليابانية بأن كوريا الشمالية أطلقت صاروخاً باليستياً محتملاً، لكن لم يُسجّل أي سقوط للصواريخ في اليابان أو محيطها.
وتركز كوريا الشمالية على توسيع ترسانتها النووية والصاروخية منذ انهيار دبلوماسية الزعيم كيم جونغ أون مع الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب عام 2019. ويرى خبراء أن الزعيم الكوري الشمالي يسعى إلى اعتراف دولي بكونها دولة نووية ليتمكن من المطالبة برفع العقوبات الاقتصادية الدولية المفروضة عليها.
وأشرف كيم الشهر الماضي على تجارب صاروخ كروز نووي وأسلحة أخرى على متن مدمرة جديدة تزن 5000 طن، بعد أن عزز مكانته الدبلوماسية بتوسيع العلاقات مع روسيا.
North Korea launched a short-range ballistic missile today (Thursday) towards the waters off its eastern coast in the latest series of missile tests it has conducted this year, according to the South Korean military.
The South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff stated in a statement that the military detected the launch from the eastern coastal area of Wonsan around 5 PM (09:00 GMT), noting that the South Korean military has enhanced its reconnaissance capabilities and is closely coordinating with the United States and Japan.
The Japanese Ministry of Defense reported that North Korea launched a potential ballistic missile, but no missile landings were recorded in Japan or its vicinity.
North Korea has been focusing on expanding its nuclear and missile arsenal since the collapse of diplomacy between leader Kim Jong Un and U.S. President Donald Trump in 2019. Experts believe that the North Korean leader seeks international recognition as a nuclear state in order to demand the lifting of international economic sanctions imposed on it.
Last month, Kim oversaw tests of a nuclear cruise missile and other weapons aboard a new 5,000-ton destroyer, after bolstering his diplomatic standing by expanding relations with Russia.
