أعلنت وزارة الداخلية التركية، السبت، إلقاء القبض على أحد المطلوبين بتهمة المشاركة في محاولة اغتيال الرئيس التركي رجب طيب أردوغان خلال المحاولة الانقلابية الفاشلة التي شهدتها البلاد في يوليو 2016، مؤكدة استمرار ملاحقة المتورطين في القضية داخل تركيا وخارجها.
وقالت الوزارة، في بيان نقلته هيئة الإذاعة والتلفزيون التركية (TRT)، إن قوات الشرطة تمكنت من توقيف مشتبه به أشير إليه بالأحرف الأولى من اسمه (بي. كيه)، وهو أحد عناصر تنظيم «فتح الله جولن» الذي تصنفه السلطات التركية منظمة إرهابية وتحمّله مسؤولية تدبير محاولة الانقلاب.
وأضاف البيان أن المشتبه به كان ضمن الوحدة التي شاركت في محاولة اغتيال أردوغان داخل مدينة مرمريس، جنوب غربي تركيا، ليلة 15 يوليو 2016، وهي العملية التي استهدفت الفندق الذي كان يقيم فيه الرئيس التركي قبل أن يغادره بفترة وجيزة.
وأوضحت الوزارة أن المتهم ضابط سابق في الجيش برتبة نقيب (كابتن) وطيار مروحية، وقد فُصل من الخدمة العسكرية بعد محاولة الانقلاب، كما كان ملاحقاً بموجب نشرة حمراء صادرة عن الشرطة الجنائية الدولية (الإنتربول).
وبحسب وزارة الداخلية، جاءت عملية القبض عليه بعد عمل استخباراتي مشترك نفذته وحدات الاستخبارات التابعة للشرطة في ولايتي أفيون قره حصار وإسكي شهير، بالتنسيق مع إدارة الاستخبارات في المديرية العامة للأمن، إذ جرى تحديد مكان اختبائه قبل أن تنفذ فرق مكافحة الإرهاب عملية القبض عليه في ولاية أفيون قره حصار.
وأكدت الوزارة أن السلطات التركية ستواصل عملياتها ضد تنظيم «فتح الله جولن» وشبكاته، مشددة على استمرار ملاحقة جميع المطلوبين المرتبطين بمحاولة الانقلاب الفاشلة.
وتعود أحداث القضية إلى ليلة 15 يوليو 2016، عندما شهدت تركيا محاولة انقلاب نفذتها عناصر من الجيش، أسفرت عن مقتل أكثر من 250 شخصاً وإصابة ما يزيد على 2700 آخرين، قبل أن تتمكن السلطات من إحباطها.
وتتهم أنقرة رجل الدين الراحل فتح الله جولن، الذي كان يقيم في الولايات المتحدة حتى وفاته عام 2024، بالوقوف وراء المحاولة، وهو ما ظل ينفيه طوال حياته.
وخلال تلك الليلة، تعرض الفندق الذي كان يقيم فيه أردوغان في مرمريس لهجوم نفذته وحدة من القوات الخاصة، إلا أن الرئيس التركي كان قد غادر الموقع قبل وصول المهاجمين بوقت قصير، لتصبح العملية واحدة من أبرز محطات الانقلاب الفاشل، وأساساً لسلسلة طويلة من التحقيقات والمحاكمات التي لا تزال السلطات التركية تواصلها بحق المتهمين بالمشاركة أو تقديم الدعم للمحاولة الانقلابية.
The Turkish Ministry of Interior announced on Saturday the arrest of one of the wanted individuals for participating in the assassination attempt on Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan during the failed coup attempt that the country witnessed in July 2016, confirming the continued pursuit of those involved in the case both inside and outside Turkey.
The ministry stated in a statement reported by the Turkish Radio and Television Corporation (TRT) that police forces managed to detain a suspect referred to by the initials (B.K.), who is a member of the "Fethullah Gülen" organization, which the Turkish authorities classify as a terrorist organization and hold responsible for orchestrating the coup attempt.
The statement added that the suspect was part of the unit that participated in the assassination attempt on Erdoğan in the city of Marmaris, southwestern Turkey, on the night of July 15, 2016, which targeted the hotel where the Turkish president was staying before he left it shortly before the attack.
The ministry clarified that the accused is a former army officer with the rank of captain and a helicopter pilot, who was discharged from military service after the coup attempt and was wanted under a red notice issued by Interpol.
According to the Ministry of Interior, the operation to arrest him came after a joint intelligence operation carried out by the intelligence units of the police in the provinces of Afyonkarahisar and Eskişehir, in coordination with the intelligence department of the General Directorate of Security, as his hiding place was identified before anti-terror teams executed the arrest operation in Afyonkarahisar province.
The ministry confirmed that Turkish authorities will continue their operations against the "Fethullah Gülen" organization and its networks, emphasizing the ongoing pursuit of all wanted individuals linked to the failed coup attempt.
The events of the case date back to the night of July 15, 2016, when Turkey experienced a coup attempt carried out by elements of the military, resulting in the deaths of more than 250 people and injuring over 2,700 others, before the authorities managed to thwart it.
Ankara accuses the late cleric Fethullah Gülen, who resided in the United States until his death in 2024, of being behind the attempt, a claim he denied throughout his life.
During that night, the hotel where Erdoğan was staying in Marmaris was attacked by a unit of special forces; however, the Turkish president had left the site shortly before the attackers arrived, making the operation one of the most prominent moments of the failed coup and the basis for a long series of investigations and trials that Turkish authorities continue against those accused of participating or providing support for the coup attempt.
