The British newspaper "Telegraph" revealed that networks linked to Iran are suspected of using migrant smuggling routes across Europe and the English Channel to transport individuals connected to the Iranian regime to the United Kingdom, in a development that highlights increasing British concerns about the activities of Iranian intelligence agencies within Europe.
According to the investigation, the newspaper quoted sources, including Iranian officials, human traffickers, and analysts, stating that some individuals linked to Iranian agencies managed to use smuggling routes to reach Britain, while British authorities are believed to have intercepted individuals suspected of being connected to Iranian security and intelligence agencies during attempts to enter the country.
The "Telegraph" reported that some traffickers operating in Europe spoke about facilitating the arrival of migrants from the French city of Calais to Britain, in exchange for providing "services" for Iran after they settle in the United Kingdom.
Unit 700 at the Heart of the Accusations
The report focuses on what it described as the role of Unit 700 of the Quds Force in the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, considering it a logistical arm suspected of being linked to smuggling operations and the movement of elements and networks associated with the Revolutionary Guard across different countries.
According to the report, Britain imposed sanctions on the unit in 2024, accusing it of facilitating activities related to destabilizing the United Kingdom and other countries.
The newspaper also quoted sources saying that some human trafficking networks extending between the Middle East, Europe, and the English Channel are under the influence or control of entities linked to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, information for which British authorities have not disclosed complete operational details.
Monitoring Boats with Artificial Intelligence
According to the newspaper, British authorities have intensified surveillance measures on the English Channel, including the use of drones and monitoring towers equipped with artificial intelligence technologies to track boats crossing the waterway.
These measures come amid ongoing attempts to cross the English Channel in small boats, as official British data indicates the arrival of hundreds of migrants in recent weeks, with continued interception and prevention operations on both sides of the channel.
London Escalates Against Iranian Activity
The journalistic revelation comes at a time when the British government has escalated its rhetoric towards Iranian activities, after the British Foreign Office announced on July 14 the summoning of the Iranian chargé d'affaires in London, following accusations of the Quds Force's involvement in directing attacks carried out by proxy groups in Europe.
London stated that Iranian intelligence agencies have not ceased their "hostile activities," asserting that Britain will take necessary measures to protect its citizens, and that threats backed by foreign states will not be tolerated.
Britain has accused Iran for years of expanding its intelligence and operational activities in Europe, including espionage, recruiting criminal networks, and targeting opponents and interests linked to Tehran's adversaries. In July 2026, London announced new measures against the Revolutionary Guard, highlighting its role in directing attacks through proxies in Europe.
The newspaper, on the other hand, indicates that the number of Revolutionary Guard elements entering Britain through legal flights from Europe is believed to be greater than the number arriving via small boats, making the issue of the English Channel part of a broader security picture concerning Iranian activity within Europe.
