أكد الرئيس السوري أحمد الشرع والأمين العام للأمم المتحدة أنطونيو غوتيريش، احترام سيادة سورية ووحدتها وسلامة أراضيها، وفق ما أفادت وكالة الأنباء السورية (سانا)، اليوم السبت.
وبحث الشرع وغوتيريش خلال اللقاء سبل تعزيز التعاون بين سورية والأمم المتحدة في المجالات الإنسانية والتنموية، إلى جانب دعم جهود التعافي المبكر وإعادة الإعمار.
وقال غوتيريش في منشور على منصة «إكس» في مستهل الزيارة التي وصفها بأنها «تضامنية»، إن «الأمم المتحدة تقف إلى جانب سورية في هذا الوقت الحاسم». ودعا الأمين العام المجتمع الدولي «ألا يدخر جهداً» لدعم الشعب السوري.
ووصل غوتيريش والوفد المرافق له إلى مطار دمشق الدولي، صباح السبت، وكان في استقباله وزير الخارجية السوري أسعد الشيباني.
وتُعد هذه الزيارة الأولى لغوتيريش إلى سورية منذ توليه منصبه، كما أنها أول زيارة لأمين عام للأمم المتحدة إلى دمشق منذ زيارة بان كي مون عام 2009.
وزار غوتيريش الجامع الأموي بدمشق، وأجرى جولة في المدينة القديمة برفقة مندوب سورية الدائم لدى الأمم المتحدة إبراهيم علبي.
وتشمل زيارة غوتيريش جولة إلى مقر قوة الأمم المتحدة لمراقبة فض الاشتباك (الأندوف) في منطقة فض الاشتباك، في إطار متابعة عمل البعثة الأممية وتنفيذ ولايتها المنصوص عليها في اتفاق فض الاشتباك لعام 1974 بين سورية وإسرائيل.
وتشهد منطقة فض الاشتباك تطورات ميدانية منذ أواخر عام 2024. ووفق تقارير الأمم المتحدة، نفّذت إسرائيل عمليات عسكرية داخل الأراضي السورية، كما وسعت انتشارها في أجزاء من المنطقة العازلة.
وزعمت إسرائيل أن تلك الإجراءات تأتي لـ«دواعٍ أمنية»، بينما تؤكد سورية أنها تمثّل «انتهاكاً» لاتفاقية فض الاشتباك والقانون الدولي، في حين تواصل الأمم المتحدة الدعوة إلى احترام الاتفاقات الدولية والحفاظ على الاستقرار في المنطقة.
وكان المتحدث باسم الأمين العام للأمم المتحدة ستيفان دوجاريك، أعلن أن غوتيريش سيؤكد خلال زيارته أن سورية أمام فرصة «ليس فقط للتعافي من الصراع، بل لوضع أسس مستقبل أكثر استقراراً وشمولاً وازدهاراً لجميع السوريين».
وتحمل الزيارة أبعاداً سياسية وإنسانية، إذ تهدف إلى التأكيد على دعم الأمم المتحدة لجهود الاستقرار، ومتابعة الملفات الإنسانية، وتعزيز التواصل مع السلطات السورية ومختلف مكونات المجتمع.
The Syrian President Ahmad al-Shara and the United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres confirmed the respect for Syria's sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity, according to the Syrian news agency (SANA) on Saturday.
During the meeting, al-Shara and Guterres discussed ways to enhance cooperation between Syria and the United Nations in humanitarian and developmental fields, as well as support for early recovery efforts and reconstruction.
Guterres stated in a post on the "X" platform at the beginning of what he described as a "solidarity" visit that "the United Nations stands by Syria at this critical time." The Secretary-General called on the international community to "spare no effort" in supporting the Syrian people.
Guterres and his accompanying delegation arrived at Damascus International Airport on Saturday morning, where they were welcomed by Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shibani.
This is Guterres's first visit to Syria since taking office, and it is also the first visit by a UN Secretary-General to Damascus since Ban Ki-moon's visit in 2009.
Guterres visited the Umayyad Mosque in Damascus and took a tour of the old city accompanied by Syria's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ibrahim al-Ali.
Guterres's visit includes a tour of the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) headquarters in the disengagement area, as part of monitoring the work of the UN mission and implementing its mandate as stipulated in the 1974 disengagement agreement between Syria and Israel.
The disengagement area has witnessed field developments since late 2024. According to UN reports, Israel has carried out military operations inside Syrian territory and expanded its presence in parts of the buffer zone.
Israel claimed that these measures are taken for "security reasons," while Syria asserts that they represent a "violation" of the disengagement agreement and international law, while the United Nations continues to call for respect for international agreements and maintaining stability in the region.
The spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General, Stéphane Dujarric, announced that Guterres will emphasize during his visit that Syria has an opportunity "not only to recover from the conflict but to lay the foundations for a more stable, inclusive, and prosperous future for all Syrians."
The visit carries political and humanitarian dimensions, as it aims to affirm the UN's support for stabilization efforts, follow up on humanitarian issues, and enhance communication with the Syrian authorities and various components of society.
