في مشهد أثار كثيراً من التساؤلات، غادر الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب العاصمة التركية أنقرة، مساء الأربعاء، على متن الطائرة الرئاسية القديمة، متخلياً مؤقتاً عن طائرة «بوينج 747-8» الجديدة التي أهدتها قطر، وذلك بالتزامن مع تصاعد المواجهة العسكرية بين الولايات المتحدة وإيران، في خطوة وصفت بأنها احترازية أكثر منها بروتوكولية.
وكشفت صحيفة «نيويورك تايمز»، نقلاً عن أشخاص مطلعين على الترتيبات الأمنية، أن قرار تغيير الطائرة جاء بناءً على توصية من جهاز الخدمة السرية الأمريكي، وليس نتيجة وجود تهديد مباشر، وإنما كإجراء وقائي في ظل استئناف الأعمال القتالية مع إيران.
وأعاد القرار الجدل بشأن مدى جاهزية الطائرة الجديدة لتأدية مهام Air Force One، بعدما كان ترمب قد ضغط لتسريع إدخالها إلى الخدمة. وبحسب الصحيفة، يخشى مشرعون ومسؤولون أمريكيون من أن ضيق الوقت لم يسمح باستكمال تركيب أنظمة الدفاع الصاروخي والحماية الإلكترونية والتجهيزات الأمنية الحساسة التي تتميز بها الطائرة الرئاسية التقليدية.
في المقابل، سارع البيت الأبيض إلى نفي وجود أي قصور أمني. وقال مدير الاتصالات في البيت الأبيض، ستيفن تشونج، إن الطائرة الجديدة «مزودة بأعلى بروتوكولات الحماية لضمان سلامة الرئيس وطاقمه»، مؤكداً أن الإدارة تستخدم «الخداع والتشتيت» ضمن الإجراءات الأمنية لحماية الرئيس، الذي يعتبره خصوم الولايات المتحدة هدفاً رئيسياً.
ورغم نفي ترمب أن يكون تبديل الطائرة مرتبطاً بدواعٍ أمنية، فإنه كرر أمام الصحفيين في أنقرة أنه «الهدف الأول لإيران»، مشيراً إلى أنه اطلع خلال الأيام الماضية على معلومات استخباراتية تتعلق بقائمة أهداف إيرانية محتملة. كما كتب على منصة «تروث سوشيال» أنه سيغادر على متن الطائرة القديمة «من أجل الأيام الخوالي»، موضحاً أن الطائرة الجديدة ستتجه إلى قاعدة ميلدنهال البريطانية لعرضها على الجنود الأمريكيين.
لكن الإجراءات التي رافقت المغادرة عززت الشكوك؛ إذ صعد ترمب إلى الطائرة القديمة بعيداً عن عدسات الصحفيين، وطُلب من جميع الركاب إغلاق ستائر النوافذ قبل الإقلاع، قبل أن ينتقل لاحقاً في قاعدة ميلدنهال الجوية إلى الطائرة الجديدة لاستكمال رحلته إلى واشنطن.
ووفقاً لـصحيفة «نيويورك تايمز»، فإن الطائرة الرئاسية القديمة تتمتع بمنظومات دفاعية متطورة، تشمل أنظمة لتشتيت الصواريخ الموجهة وإطلاق رقائق معدنية مضللة، بينما لا يزال الغموض يحيط بما إذا كانت الطائرة الجديدة قد حصلت على جميع هذه القدرات.
ويؤكد مسؤولون سابقون في القوات الجوية الأمريكية أن تحويل طائرة مدنية فاخرة إلى طائرة رئاسية بمواصفات Air Force One يتطلب تعديلات هيكلية معقدة قد تستغرق أكثر من عام، وتشمل أنظمة دفاع صاروخي، وحماية من النبضات الكهرومغناطيسية، وشبكات اتصالات مؤمنة، وهي تجهيزات ما زال من غير المعروف ما إذا كانت قد اكتملت في الطائرة الجديدة، بحسب صحيفة نيويورك تايمز.
In a scene that raised many questions, U.S. President Donald Trump left the Turkish capital Ankara on Wednesday evening aboard the old presidential plane, temporarily abandoning the new Boeing 747-8 gifted by Qatar, coinciding with the escalation of military confrontation between the United States and Iran, in a move described as more precautionary than protocol-related.
The New York Times reported, citing informed sources on security arrangements, that the decision to change the plane came based on a recommendation from the U.S. Secret Service, not due to a direct threat, but as a precautionary measure amid the resumption of hostilities with Iran.
The decision reignited the debate about the readiness of the new plane to perform the duties of Air Force One, after Trump had pushed to expedite its entry into service. According to the newspaper, U.S. lawmakers and officials fear that the tight timeline did not allow for the completion of the installation of missile defense systems, electronic protection, and sensitive security equipment that characterize the traditional presidential aircraft.
In contrast, the White House quickly denied any security shortcomings. White House Communications Director Stephen Chung stated that the new plane is "equipped with the highest protection protocols to ensure the safety of the president and his staff," emphasizing that the administration employs "deception and distraction" as part of security measures to protect the president, who is considered a primary target by U.S. adversaries.
Despite Trump's denial that the change of plane was related to security reasons, he reiterated to reporters in Ankara that he is "the primary target for Iran," noting that he had received intelligence information in recent days regarding a list of potential Iranian targets. He also posted on Truth Social that he would be leaving on the old plane "for the good old days," explaining that the new plane would head to the British Mildenhall base to be showcased to U.S. troops.
However, the procedures accompanying the departure heightened suspicions; Trump boarded the old plane away from the lenses of journalists, and all passengers were asked to close the window curtains before takeoff, before later transferring at Mildenhall Air Base to the new plane to continue his journey to Washington.
According to The New York Times, the old presidential plane is equipped with advanced defensive systems, including systems to distract guided missiles and launch decoy metal chips, while it remains unclear whether the new plane has received all these capabilities.
Former officials in the U.S. Air Force confirm that converting a luxury civilian aircraft into a presidential plane with Air Force One specifications requires complex structural modifications that may take over a year, including missile defense systems, protection from electromagnetic pulses, and secure communication networks, equipment that it is still unknown whether it has been completed in the new plane, according to The New York Times.
