أعلن الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب أن الولايات المتحدة منحت إيران مهلة أسبوع لوقف العمليات من أجل إقامة مراسم جنازة المرشد علي خامنئي من منطلق اللطف.
وقال ترمب خلال خطاب ألقاه، اليوم السبت، عند جبل راشمور في ولاية ساوث داكوتا بمناسبة يوم الاستقلال، إن الإيرانيين يتطلعون بشدة وبكل الطرق من أجل التوصل إلى تسوية سياسية مع الجانب الأمريكي. وأشار إلى أن إدارته وجهت ضربات قاسية جداً إلى طهران، وحسمت المواجهة مع فنزويلا في يوم واحد.
ورأى أن أمريكا دخلت بالفعل عصرها الذهبي، إلا أنه قال: «ما زلنا في نقطة الانطلاق» واعتبر أنه لا توجد دولة في العالم قدمت من الإسهامات الإيجابية للبشرية أكثر من بلاده.
وحذّر الرئيس الأمريكي من عودة الحزب الديمقراطي إلى الرئاسة والسلطة، لافتاً إلى أنهم إن عادوا فسيسعون لسن قوانين وتعديلات تنهي أي فرصة للجمهوريين بالفوز في أي انتخابات مقبلة.
ولفت إلى «قادمين جدد إلى الولايات المتحدة يعتنقون أفكاراً شيوعية تتعارض تماماً مع نمط الحياة الأمريكية والنجاح الاقتصادي». وشدد على أن «الخلاف ليس سياسياً بشأن الضرائب واللوائح بل يتجسد في مواجهة مع الشيوعية التي تمثل تهديداً مميتاً للحرية». ورأى أن الهوية الأمريكية تتعرض لـ «هجوم متجدد من المتعصبين والمتطرفين داخل البلاد».
وكان ترمب كرر خلال الفترة الماضية أن إيران وافقت على جميع المطالب الأمريكية، كما أكد مراراً وتكراراً أنها هزمت، وأنها لن تحصل أبداً على سلاح نووي.
ووقع الجانبان الأمريكي والإيراني مذكرة تفاهم من 14 بنداً منتصف يونيو الماضي، وعقدا محادثات فنية في سويسرا ثم في الدوحة بحضور الوسيطين القطري والباكستاني، من أجل بحث تفاصيل التوصل إلى اتفاق نهائي. فيما لا تزال بعض الملفات المعقدة عالقة على رأسها إدارة مضيق هرمز. إذ تتمسك طهران بإدارة حركة الملاحة فيه بالتعاون مع سلطنة عمان مقابل ما تصفه بـ«بدل خدمات»، وهو ما تعارضه واشنطن ومسقط على السواء.

Trump stated during a speech he delivered today, Saturday, at Mount Rushmore in South Dakota on the occasion of Independence Day, that the Iranians are eagerly and desperately seeking a political settlement with the American side. He pointed out that his administration has dealt very harsh blows to Tehran and resolved the confrontation with Venezuela in one day.
He noted that America has indeed entered its golden age, but he said, "We are still at the starting point" and considered that no country in the world has made more positive contributions to humanity than his own.
The American president warned against the return of the Democratic Party to the presidency and power, pointing out that if they return, they will seek to enact laws and amendments that will end any chance for Republicans to win in any upcoming elections.
He highlighted "newcomers to the United States who embrace communist ideas that completely contradict the American way of life and economic success." He emphasized that "the conflict is not political regarding taxes and regulations but is manifested in a confrontation with communism, which poses a deadly threat to freedom." He saw that the American identity is under "a renewed attack from extremists and radicals within the country."
Trump has repeatedly stated in recent times that Iran has agreed to all American demands, and he has reiterated that it has been defeated and will never acquire nuclear weapons.
The American and Iranian sides signed a 14-point memorandum of understanding in mid-June, and they held technical talks in Switzerland and then in Doha with the presence of Qatari and Pakistani mediators to discuss the details of reaching a final agreement. Meanwhile, some complex issues remain unresolved, primarily the management of the Strait of Hormuz. Tehran insists on managing navigation there in cooperation with Oman in exchange for what it describes as "service fees," which both Washington and Muscat oppose.
