شهدت اليونان، فجر (الأربعاء)، سلسلة هجمات بعبوات حارقة استهدفت أماكن إقامة أعضاء في حزب الديمقراطية الجديدة، ما أسفر عن إصابة خمسة أشخاص، بينهم مرشح برلماني؛ وفق ما أعلنته السلطات.
وقالت الشرطة إن ثلاث هجمات متتالية وقعت بين الساعة الرابعة والرابعة و45 دقيقة صباحاً بالتوقيت المحلي، واستهدفت مباني سكنية باستخدام عبوات حارقة جرى تصنيعها من أسطوانات غاز مخصصة للتخييم.
وأوضحت السلطات أن الهجوم الثالث كان الأكثر عنفاً، إذ تسبب في اشتعال النيران بعدد من السيارات والدراجات النارية، وأسفر عن جميع الإصابات المسجلة.
وبحسب التقارير، فإن إحدى السيارات التي طالتها النيران تعود إلى مرشح برلماني عن الحزب الحاكم؛ حيث أصيب بحروق، بينما نُقلت والدته إلى وحدة العناية المركزة متأثرة بإصابتها، في حين أُدخل ثلاثة أشخاص آخرين إلى المستشفى إثر تعرضهم للاختناق جراء تصاعد الدخان.
وفتحت أجهزة الأمن اليونانية تحقيقاً موسعاً لكشف ملابسات الهجمات وتحديد هوية منفذيها ودوافعهم، وسط إجراءات أمنية مشددة في محيط المواقع المستهدفة.
وشهدت اليونان، خلال السنوات الماضية، عدداً من الهجمات باستخدام عبوات حارقة أو بدائية الصنع استهدفت مقار حكومية وسياسيين ومؤسسات عامة، وغالباً ما تنسب مثل هذه العمليات إلى جماعات متطرفة أو فوضوية.
ورغم تراجع وتيرتها مقارنة بسنوات سابقة، فإن استهداف شخصيات مرتبطة بالحزب الحاكم يُعد تطوراً أمنياً لافتاً يعيد إلى الواجهة المخاوف من عودة أعمال العنف ذات الدوافع السياسية في البلاد.
Greece witnessed a series of incendiary device attacks at dawn on Wednesday, targeting the residences of members of the New Democracy party, resulting in five injuries, including a parliamentary candidate; according to authorities.
The police stated that three consecutive attacks occurred between 4:00 AM and 4:45 AM local time, targeting residential buildings using incendiary devices made from camping gas cylinders.
The authorities clarified that the third attack was the most violent, causing fires to several cars and motorcycles, and resulting in all recorded injuries.
According to reports, one of the vehicles that caught fire belonged to a parliamentary candidate from the ruling party; he sustained burns, while his mother was transferred to the intensive care unit due to her injuries, and three other individuals were hospitalized after suffering from smoke inhalation.
The Greek security agencies have launched an extensive investigation to uncover the circumstances of the attacks and identify the perpetrators and their motives, amid heightened security measures around the targeted sites.
In recent years, Greece has witnessed a number of attacks using incendiary or rudimentary devices targeting government offices, politicians, and public institutions, and such operations are often attributed to extremist or anarchist groups.
Although the frequency of these attacks has decreased compared to previous years, targeting figures associated with the ruling party is considered a significant security development that raises concerns about the resurgence of politically motivated violence in the country.
