أكّد وزير الدفاع التركي يشار غولر، أن حلف شمال الأطلسي (الناتو) يمر بمرحلة تكيّف مع التحولات التي تشهدها البيئة الأمنية الدولية، نافياً وجود مؤشرات على اعتزام الولايات المتحدة الانسحاب من الحلف، وذلك قبيل انعقاد قمة (الناتو) في أنقرة الأسبوع القادم.
وستستضيف العاصمة التركية يومي 7 و8 يوليو قادة الدول الـ32 الأعضاء في الحلف، إلى جانب مسؤولين من دول الخليج ومنطقة آسيا والمحيط الهادئ، في وقت تواجه فيه المنظمة تحديات تتعلق بتقاسم الأعباء الدفاعية، وزيادة الإنفاق العسكري، والمطالب الأمريكية بمساهمة أكبر من الحلفاء في حماية أمن أوروبا وتأمين الملاحة في مضيق هرمز.
وبحسب وكالة (رويترز) قال غولر: إن جدول أعمال القمة سيركز على تعزيز وحدة الحلف، وتقييم الزيادة في الإنفاق الدفاعي للدول الأعضاء، وتوسيع التعاون في الصناعات الدفاعية، إضافة إلى تعزيز الدعم المقدم لأوكرانيا.
وشدّد الوزير التركي على أهمية إشراك بلاده في المبادرات الدفاعية الأوروبية، معتبراً أن أمن القارة لا يمكن فصله عن دور تركيا وموقعها الاستراتيجي. وأضاف: «لا يزال حلف شمال الأطلسي منصة لا مثيل لها وأساسية للأمن والدفاع في منطقة اليورو-أطلسي. ونحن لا ننظر إلى المرحلة الحالية بوصفها أزمة، بل باعتبارها عملية تكيف مع البيئة الأمنية المتغيرة».
وأوضح غولر أن الولايات المتحدة لا تسعى إلى مغادرة الحلف، لكنها تتوقع من الدول الأوروبية وكندا تحمُّل مسؤولية أكبر في الدفاع عن أوروبا، مؤكداً أن أي ترتيبات أو مبادرات دفاعية أوروبية ينبغي أن تشمل تركيا بوصفها حليفاً رئيسياً في «الناتو».
Turkish Defense Minister Yasar Guler confirmed that NATO is undergoing a phase of adaptation to the transformations in the international security environment, denying any indications that the United States intends to withdraw from the alliance, just ahead of the NATO summit in Ankara next week.
The Turkish capital will host the leaders of the 32 member states of the alliance on July 7 and 8, along with officials from Gulf countries and the Asia-Pacific region, at a time when the organization faces challenges related to burden-sharing, increased military spending, and U.S. demands for greater contributions from allies in securing Europe's safety and ensuring navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
According to Reuters, Guler stated that the summit's agenda will focus on strengthening the alliance's unity, assessing the increase in defense spending among member states, expanding cooperation in defense industries, and enhancing support for Ukraine.
The Turkish minister emphasized the importance of involving his country in European defense initiatives, considering that the security of the continent cannot be separated from Turkey's role and strategic position. He added, "NATO remains an unparalleled and essential platform for security and defense in the Euro-Atlantic area. We do not view the current phase as a crisis, but rather as a process of adaptation to the changing security environment."
Guler clarified that the United States is not seeking to leave the alliance, but it expects European countries and Canada to take on greater responsibility for defending Europe, affirming that any European defense arrangements or initiatives should include Turkey as a key ally in NATO.
