توقع الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب حدوث اختراق في المفاوضات، مؤكداً أن السفن التي احتجزتها إيران في مضيق هرمز ليست أمريكية.
وقال ترمب لشبكة «فوكس نيوز»: «أراقب عن كثب تحركات إيران في مضيق هرمز».
وكان الحرس الثوري الإيراني، قد أعلن احتجاز سفينتين واقتيادهما إلى المياه الإيرانية، حسبما نقلت وكالة «تسنيم» الإيرانية.
بدورها، قالت القيادة المركزية الأمريكية إن قواتها أعادت 29 سفينة في إطار الحصار الأمريكي المفروض على إيران.
بدوره، طلب رئيس الوزراء الباكستاني شهباز شريف من سفير إيران في إسلام آباد رضا أميري مقدم، نقل رسالة إلى القيادة الإيرانية للنظر في عقد جولة مفاوضات مع الولايات المتحدة في أقرب وقت ممكن.
ونقلت قناة «الشرق» عن مصدر باكستاني قوله إن اجتماع شريف مع السفير الإيراني استمر لفترة طويلة، لكنه ركّز على التوترات المتصاعدة في الشرق الأوسط، والضغوط الدولية التي تواجهها إيران، وآفاق السلام والاستقرار في المنطقة.
ونقلت صحيفة «وول ستريت جورنال» عن مسؤولين باكستانيين قولهم إنهم لا يزالون يأملون في أن يتفق الجانبان الأمريكي والإيراني على خفض التصعيد والاجتماع مجدداً.
U.S. President Donald Trump predicted a breakthrough in negotiations, confirming that the ships seized by Iran in the Strait of Hormuz are not American.
Trump told Fox News: "I am closely monitoring Iran's movements in the Strait of Hormuz."
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard announced the seizure of two ships and their transfer to Iranian waters, according to the Iranian news agency Tasnim.
For its part, the U.S. Central Command stated that its forces have returned 29 ships as part of the American blockade imposed on Iran.
Meanwhile, Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif requested that the Iranian ambassador in Islamabad, Reza Amiri Moghaddam, convey a message to the Iranian leadership to consider holding a round of negotiations with the United States as soon as possible.
The "Sharq" channel reported that a Pakistani source said Sharif's meeting with the Iranian ambassador lasted a long time, but focused on the escalating tensions in the Middle East, the international pressures facing Iran, and the prospects for peace and stability in the region.
The Wall Street Journal quoted Pakistani officials as saying that they still hope the American and Iranian sides will agree to de-escalate and meet again.
