«العدالة المنحرفة».. كشف الصفقة السرية
في نوفمبر 2018، نشرت براون سلسلة تحقيقية من 3 أجزاء بعنوان «Perversion of Justice» (العدالة المنحرفة)، كشفت فيها تفاصيل الصفقة السرية المثيرة للجدل التي أبرمها إبستين عام 2008 مع مكتب المدعي العام في جنوب فلوريدا. الصفقة منحته عقوبة مخففة بشكل غير مسبوق وحصانة لشركائه المحتملين، على الرغم من الاتهامات الجنائية الخطيرة بحق عشرات القاصرات.
سلسلة هزّت العالم
في أواخر 2016 وبداية 2017، وبينما كانت براون تحقق في موضوع الاتجار بالبشر، لاحظت أن اسم إبستين يظهر بشكل متكرر في سياق صفقة غامضة، فتساءلت: كيف لرجل متهم بالاعتداء على عشرات القاصرات أن يقضي أقل من 13 شهراً في سجن مريح مع إمكانية الخروج اليومي للعمل؟
بدأت رحلة بحث استمرت أكثر من عام، تضمنت التواصل مع أكثر من 80 امرأة كن قاصرات وقت الجرائم، وإقناع العديد منهن بالحديث علناً لأول مرة بعد سنوات من الصمت والخوف. كما حصلت على وثائق محكمة ومراسلات داخلية، وكشفت كيف تم استبعاد الضحايا عمداً من الصفقة، ودور شبكة محامين قوية، من بينهم آلان ديرشوفيتز، في صياغة وتأمين الصفقة.
رحلة البحث تتوج بالعدالة
أدى تحقيق براون الاستقصائي إلى اعتقال إبستين في يوليو 2019 بتهم فيدرالية تتعلق بالاتجار الجنسي بالقاصرات. كما استقال ألكسندر أكوستا، المدعي العام السابق الذي أبرم الصفقة وأصبح وزيراً للعمل في إدارة ترمب، تحت ضغط الرأي العام.
الصفقة السابقة أُبطلت قضائياً بعد اعتبارها انتهاكاً لحقوق الضحايا، وفتحت تحقيقات جديدة أسفرت لاحقاً عن إدانة غيسلين ماكسويل بالسجن 20 عاماً.
الصحفية التي لم ينتبه إليها أحد
قالت براون إن أحد أسباب نجاحها كان الاستخفاف بها؛ لم يتوقع محيط إبستين أن «صحفية محلية من فلوريدا» يمكن أن تشكل خطراً. هذا الاستخفاف منحها القدرة على العمل بهدوء بعيداً عن الأضواء لفترة طويلة، ورغم التهديدات والضغوط، لم تتراجع، وتحولت القضية من ملف محلي مغلق إلى فضيحة وطنية وعالمية.

أصدرت جولي ك. براون كتاباً بعنوان «Perversion of Justice: The Jeffrey Epstein Story»، وفازت بجوائز مرموقة أبرزها جائزة جورج بولك مرتين، وجائزة الإنجاز مدى الحياة من منظمة Investigative Reporters and Editors عام 2025. لكنها تؤكد أن الأبطال الحقيقيين ليسوا الصحفيين، بل النساء اللواتي تجرأن على الكلام بعد سنوات من الخوف والإسكات والتخويف.

In November 2018, Brown published a three-part investigative series titled “Perversion of Justice,” in which she revealed the details of the controversial secret deal Epstein struck in 2008 with the U.S. Attorney's Office in Southern Florida. The deal granted him an unprecedented lenient sentence and immunity for potential accomplices, despite serious criminal charges against dozens of underage girls.
A Series That Shook the World
In late 2016 and early 2017, while Brown was investigating human trafficking, she noticed that Epstein's name appeared repeatedly in the context of a mysterious deal, prompting her to ask: How could a man accused of assaulting dozens of underage girls serve less than 13 months in a comfortable jail with the possibility of daily release for work?
Thus began a search journey that lasted more than a year, involving communication with over 80 women who were minors at the time of the crimes, and convincing many of them to speak publicly for the first time after years of silence and fear. She also obtained court documents and internal correspondence, revealing how victims were deliberately excluded from the deal, and the role of a powerful network of lawyers, including Alan Dershowitz, in crafting and securing the deal.
A Journey of Search Culminating in Justice
Brown's investigative work led to Epstein's arrest in July 2019 on federal charges related to the sex trafficking of minors. Alexander Acosta, the former U.S. Attorney who struck the deal and later became Secretary of Labor in the Trump administration, resigned under public pressure.
The previous deal was judicially overturned after being deemed a violation of the victims' rights, leading to new investigations that later resulted in the conviction of Ghislaine Maxwell to 20 years in prison.
The Journalist Who Went Unnoticed
Brown stated that one reason for her success was the underestimation of her; Epstein's circle did not expect that a “local journalist from Florida” could pose a threat. This underestimation allowed her to work quietly away from the spotlight for a long time, and despite threats and pressures, she did not back down, transforming the case from a closed local file into a national and global scandal.

Julie K. Brown published a book titled “Perversion of Justice: The Jeffrey Epstein Story” and won prestigious awards, most notably the George Polk Award twice and the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Investigative Reporters and Editors organization in 2025. However, she emphasizes that the real heroes are not the journalists, but the women who dared to speak out after years of fear, silencing, and intimidation.
