فيما أكد مسؤولون أمريكيون لموقع «أكسيوس» أن ترمب لا يزال منفتحاً على الدبلوماسية مع طهران، أعرب الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب اليوم (الأحد)، عن أمله في التوصل إلى اتفاق مع إيران.
وقال مسؤولون أمريكيون لموقع «أكسيوس» إن تصريحات ترمب بشأن التفاوض مع إيران ليست مناورة، مطالبين المرشد الإيراني علي خامنئي، بالإذن لدبلوماسييه بالتوصل لاتفاق.
وكشف الموقع الأمريكي أن وسطاء يعملون على تنظيم لقاء بين المبعوث الأمريكي الخاص ستيف ويتكوف والإيرانيين في أنقرة هذا الأسبوع.
تعزيز أمريكي للأنظمة الدفاعية
من جهة أخرى، ذكرت صحيفة «وول ستريت جورنال» الأمريكية أن الولايات المتحدة تعزز أنظمة دفاعها الجوي، تحسباً لضربة كبيرة من إيران، في حالة أوعز الرئيس ترمب بتوجيه ضربة ضد إيران.
وتعمل وزارة الدفاع الأمريكية (البنتاغون) على نشر منظومة دفاع صاروخي إضافية من طراز «ثاد»، إضافة إلى عدة منظومات «باتريوت» للدفاع الجوي في القواعد التي تتمركز فيها القوات الأمريكية.
ونقلت عن مسؤولين في الإدارة الأمريكية، أن ضربات واشنطن من غير المرجح أن تحدث في المستقبل القريب، وبحسب الصحيفة فإن «الجيش الأمريكي قد يشن ضربات محدودة ضد إيران إذا أمر الرئيس ترمب بشن هجوم».
طهران ترجح الاتفاق مع واشنطن
بالمقابل، قال وزير الخارجية الإيراني عباس عراقجي، اليوم، إن بلاده واثقة من إمكانية التوصل إلى اتفاق عادل ومنصف مع الولايات المتحدة بشأن برنامجها النووي، ملوحاً بالاستعداد للحرب إذا فشلت المحادثات.
وقال عراقجي لشبكة «سي إن إن» الأمريكية: «للأسف فقدنا ثقتنا بالولايات المتحدة كشريك تفاوضي»، مشيراً إلى أن تبادل الرسائل عبر دول صديقة في المنطقة أسهم في تيسير محادثات مثمرة مع واشنطن.
ورفض الوزير الإيراني التعهد بالدخول في مفاوضات مباشرة مع المفاوضين الأمريكيين، مشدداً على ضرورة التركيز على جوهر المفاوضات بدلاً من شكلها.
وأشار إلى أن تعثر التقدم نحو استئناف المفاوضات يعود إلى إصرار إيران على حصر النقاش في الملف النووي، ورفض الولايات المتحدة تقليص وجودها العسكري في المنطقة.
طهران بين الاتفاق النووي والتلويح بالحرب
وفي رده على سؤال حول إمكانية أن يكون برنامج الصواريخ الإيراني ودور حلفاء طهران الإقليميين جزءاً من المفاوضات، قال عراقجي: «التركيز يجب أن ينصب على القدرات النووية فقط»، مضيفاً: «دعونا لا نتحدث عن أمور مستحيلة، وألا نضيّع فرصة التوصل إلى اتفاق عادل ومنصف يضمن عدم امتلاك أسلحة نووية، وهذا أمر قابل للتحقيق حتى خلال فترة زمنية قصيرة».
وتوقع وزير خارجية إيران رفع العقوبات الأمريكية المفروضة على بلاده، واحترام حقها في مواصلة تخصيب اليورانيوم لأغراض سلمية، مبيناً أن إيران مستعدة للحرب إذا فشلت المحادثات.
ولفت إلى أن النزاع سيكون كارثياً على الجميع، مهدداً باستهداف القواعد الأمريكية في المنطقة.
حرب إقليمية
في الوقت ذاته، نقلت وكالة تسنيم الإيرانية عن المرشد الإيراني، علي خامنئي، قوله: «يجب أن يعرف الأمريكيون أنه إذا بدأوا حرباً، فستكون هذه المرة حربا إقليمية المستوى»، مضيفاً: الشعب الإيراني لا ينبغي أن يخشى تصريحات الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب بشأن نشر كميات كبيرة من الأسلحة في الشرق الأوسط.
وأشار إلى أن بلاده «لن تبدأ الحروب ولا ترغب في مهاجمة أي بلد، ولكن الشعب الإيراني سيرد بقوة على كل من يعتدي ويلحق بنا الضرر»، واصفاً الاحتجاجات في بلاده بأنها أشبه بمحاولة «انقلاب».
وكان وزير الخارجية الفرنسي جان نويل بارو قد طالب طهران بـ«القبول بتنازلات كبرى» في إطار مفاوضات دبلوماسية لتفادي ضربات أمريكية محتملة على أراضيها، في مقابلة مع صحيفة «ليبيراسيون»، اليوم، مبيناً أن الولايات المتحدة «وضعت نفسها في موقع يمكّنها من إطلاق عملية عسكرية ضد إيران وعرضت في الوقت نفسه مساراً تفاوضياً ويتعيّن على النظام الإيراني اغتنامه، والقبول بتنازلات كبرى وتغيير جذري في النهج».
While American officials confirmed to Axios that Trump is still open to diplomacy with Tehran, U.S. President Donald Trump expressed today (Sunday) his hope of reaching an agreement with Iran.
American officials told Axios that Trump's statements about negotiating with Iran are not a maneuver, calling on Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei to allow his diplomats to reach an agreement.
The American site revealed that intermediaries are working to organize a meeting between U.S. Special Envoy Steve Wittekov and the Iranians in Ankara this week.
U.S. Strengthening Defensive Systems
On another note, the American newspaper The Wall Street Journal reported that the United States is strengthening its air defense systems in anticipation of a major strike from Iran, in case President Trump orders a strike against Iran.
The U.S. Department of Defense (Pentagon) is working to deploy an additional THAAD missile defense system, along with several Patriot air defense systems at bases where U.S. forces are stationed.
It quoted officials in the U.S. administration as saying that strikes from Washington are unlikely to occur in the near future, and according to the newspaper, "the U.S. military may launch limited strikes against Iran if President Trump orders an attack."
Tehran Favors Agreement with Washington
In contrast, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated today that his country is confident of reaching a fair and just agreement with the United States regarding its nuclear program, hinting at readiness for war if talks fail.
Araghchi told CNN: "Unfortunately, we have lost our trust in the United States as a negotiating partner," pointing out that exchanging messages through friendly countries in the region has facilitated fruitful talks with Washington.
The Iranian minister refused to commit to entering direct negotiations with American negotiators, emphasizing the need to focus on the substance of the negotiations rather than their form.
He noted that the stagnation in progress towards resuming negotiations is due to Iran's insistence on limiting the discussion to the nuclear file, and the United States' refusal to reduce its military presence in the region.
Tehran Between the Nuclear Agreement and Threats of War
In response to a question about the possibility of including Iran's missile program and the role of Tehran's regional allies in the negotiations, Araghchi said: "The focus should be solely on nuclear capabilities," adding: "Let us not talk about impossible matters, and let us not waste the opportunity to reach a fair and just agreement that ensures no possession of nuclear weapons, which is achievable even within a short timeframe."
The Iranian Foreign Minister expected the lifting of U.S. sanctions imposed on his country and respect for its right to continue enriching uranium for peaceful purposes, indicating that Iran is prepared for war if talks fail.
He pointed out that the conflict would be catastrophic for everyone, threatening to target U.S. bases in the region.
Regional War
At the same time, the Tasnim news agency quoted Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei as saying: "Americans must know that if they start a war, this time it will be a regional-level war," adding: "The Iranian people should not fear U.S. President Donald Trump's statements about deploying large amounts of weapons in the Middle East."
He indicated that his country "will not start wars nor does it wish to attack any country, but the Iranian people will respond strongly to anyone who attacks and harms us," describing the protests in his country as akin to an "attempted coup."
French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian had called on Tehran to "accept major concessions" within the framework of diplomatic negotiations to avoid potential U.S. strikes on its territory, in an interview with the newspaper Liberation today, indicating that the United States "has positioned itself to launch a military operation against Iran while also offering a negotiating pathway that the Iranian regime must seize, accepting major concessions and a radical change in approach."
