أعلنت الشرطة الفرنسية أن رجلاً مسلحاً بسكين قُتل برصاص الشرطة في جزيرة كورسيكا، اليوم (السبت)، بعدما هدد المارة وأصحاب المتاجر، في وقت عززت السلطات الفرنسية الإجراءات الأمنية خلال موسم الأعياد.
وبحسب وكالة أسوشيتد برس «أ ب» الأمريكية، أفادت الشرطة بأنها تلقت بلاغاً قرابة الظهيرة عن شخص يهدد أحد المتاجر بسكين في مدينة أجاكسيو. وعند وصول عناصر الأمن إلى المكان، كان الشاب (26 عاماً) قد غادر الموقع.
وفي وقت لاحق، عثرت الشرطة عليه في مكان آخر وسط المدينة، وكان لا يزال يحمل السكين. وأمره الضباط بإلقاء السلاح، لكنه لم يمتثل للأوامر، بحسب الشرطة.
واستخدمت الشرطة سلاح الصعق الكهربائي، إلا أنه فشل في إيقافه. وعندها تقدم الرجل نحو الضباط وهو يحمل السكين، ما دفعهم إلى إطلاق النار عليه. وقد فارق الحياة في المكان رغم تدخل فرق الإسعاف.
وأشارت الشرطة إلى إصابة أحد عناصرها بجراح طفيفة في اليد. ولم تُعرف دوافع المهاجم على الفور.
من جهته، قال وزير الداخلية الفرنسي لوران نونيز إن «مستوى اليقظة في أعلى درجاته» خلال موسم الأعياد، مضيفاً أنه أصدر تعليمات بتعزيز الدوريات الأمنية في الأماكن العامة.
The French police announced that a man armed with a knife was shot dead by police in Corsica today (Saturday) after threatening passersby and shop owners, as French authorities enhanced security measures during the holiday season.
According to the Associated Press (AP), the police reported that they received a call around noon about a person threatening a store with a knife in the city of Ajaccio. When security personnel arrived at the scene, the young man (26 years old) had already left the location.
Later, the police found him in another part of the city, still carrying the knife. Officers ordered him to drop the weapon, but he did not comply with the orders, according to the police.
The police used a Taser, but it failed to stop him. At that point, the man advanced toward the officers while holding the knife, prompting them to open fire on him. He died at the scene despite the intervention of paramedic teams.
The police indicated that one of their officers sustained minor injuries to the hand. The motives of the attacker were not immediately known.
For his part, French Interior Minister Laurent Nunez stated that "the level of vigilance is at its highest" during the holiday season, adding that he has instructed to enhance security patrols in public places.
