أعلنت المتحدثة باسم وزارة الدفاع الأمريكية كينغسلي ويلسون، أن البنتاغون يمتلك خطة استجابة جاهزة في حال حدوث أي تطور مفاجئ يتعلق برحيل الرئيس الفنزويلي نيكولاس مادورو.
وجاء حديث ويلسون خلال مؤتمر صحفي (الثلاثاء)، حيث ردت على سؤال بشأن استعدادات الولايات المتحدة لأي تغيير محتمل في فنزويلا قائلة: «لدى الوزارة خطة طوارئ لأي حادثة طارئة. نحن جهة تضع خططاً. إذا حدث أي طارئ في العالم، فلدينا خطة استجابة جاهزة».
وكان الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب طالب الرئيس الفنزويلي نيكولاس مادورو، خلال محادثة هاتفية جرت يوم 21 نوفمبر، بمغادرة بلاده في غضون أسبوع.
ووفقاً للمصادر، استمرت المحادثة أقل من 15 دقيقة، قال خلالها ترمب لمادورو إن «أمامه أسبوعا لمغادرة فنزويلا مع عائلته والذهاب إلى أي مكان يختاره».
وأعرب مادورو خلال المحادثة عن استعداده لمغادرة البلاد مع أفراد أسرته إذا «تم الإعلان عن عفو كامل عنهم، بما في ذلك رفع جميع العقوبات الأمريكية». كما طالب الرئيس الفنزويلي بإنهاء الإجراءات المتعلقة به أمام المحكمة الجنائية الدولية، وكذلك رفع العقوبات الأمريكية ضد 100 مسؤول فنزويلي.
U.S. Defense Department spokesperson Kingsley Wilson announced that the Pentagon has a ready response plan in case of any sudden developments regarding the departure of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro.
Wilson made her remarks during a press conference (on Tuesday), where she responded to a question about U.S. preparations for any potential change in Venezuela, saying: "The department has an emergency plan for any urgent incident. We are an agency that makes plans. If any emergency occurs in the world, we have a ready response plan."
U.S. President Donald Trump had urged Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, during a phone call on November 21, to leave his country within a week.
According to sources, the conversation lasted less than 15 minutes, during which Trump told Maduro that "he has a week to leave Venezuela with his family and go anywhere he chooses."
During the conversation, Maduro expressed his willingness to leave the country with his family if "a full pardon is announced for them, including the lifting of all U.S. sanctions." The Venezuelan president also demanded the termination of proceedings against him before the International Criminal Court, as well as the lifting of U.S. sanctions against 100 Venezuelan officials.
