There are people you meet and befriend, then they leave you without leaving a trace in your soul; they are like a cloud that passes over you and then departs. There are others you meet and befriend, and you nurture the friendship, which becomes a rain that nourishes your thirsty days and your life, because they leave an indelible mark on your journey through life, becoming bright stars that illuminate your path wherever you go. Even when they leave, they do not truly depart from you; although they may be absent from this world in body, they are always in your heart, residing there and never leaving it.
Among the latter type is my friend and spiritual father, Abdulaziz Al-Aqeel, who met his Lord, the Generous, in a state of satisfaction and being satisfied with him, after a long journey of struggle and giving in life, during which he never ceased to give and help others, and to contribute with awareness and sincerity to serving his country.
For those who do not know the late generous man, I say that this self-made man, who started his life from scratch, through his honesty, sincerity, and truthfulness with himself and others, and his good treatment of others and selflessness, God opened doors for him, and his business flourished. How could it not flourish when he was trading with God, through noble charitable deeds, such as building mosques in his city of Hail, and in the city of the Messenger of God, peace be upon him, answering the needy and helping everyone who sought his assistance in secret, doing so out of love for God, not seeking worldly gain, vanity, or a false deceptive status.
I had a relationship of friendship and fatherhood with Al-Aqeel; he considered me one of his sons and never hesitated to offer me advice or support. I remember one day I visited his city, Hail, and he surrounded me with his generosity, accommodating me in "one of the hotels" in a villa. In the morning, I called him, jokingly saying: "Can they bring us a continental and Eastern breakfast?" He laughed and replied with his kind spirit: "We don't have breakfast here." Once, he visited me in Tabuk at my family's place, and after the hospitality, we took a car to Jordan, Syria, and then Lebanon. During the road trip, he explained to me how, in his youth, he would walk from his city of Hail with his camels to Palestine for trade, recalling every detail of the struggles he lived through, and how life was in our country before God blessed it with abundance and growth.
Despite the wealth and success he achieved, he continued to live a simple life without pretension, worshiping God with sincerity and dedication, setting an example of a believer who thanks his Lord's blessing through kindness and good worship, and sincerity in obedience. He never looked down on anyone or felt superior to the poor, seeing himself only as a servant of God, quietly and secretly serving his community, extending his hand to anyone who came to him asking for help.
I wish I could mention all the virtues of Al-Aqeel, but the lines are too narrow to contain them, and words fail me to express their abundance. Therefore, I can only bid him farewell with words from the heart, where his memory resides. The memory of the righteous lives in the heart, and his memory will continue to dwell deep within me, and my tongue will constantly pray for him. May God have mercy on you, my dear friend Abdulaziz Al-Aqeel, and to the paradise of bliss, we bid you farewell, as a reward for what you offered in your life, and we consider you among those whom the Almighty said about: "Indeed, the righteous will be in gardens and rivers, in a seat of honor near a Sovereign, Perfect in Ability."
