فيما بدت أنها أزمة جديدة في العلاقات المتوترة بين مصر وإسرائيل، ألغى وزير الطاقة الأمريكي كريس رايت زيارته المقررة إلى إسرائيل والتي كانت ستستمر 6 أيام، بعد أن رفض نظيره الإسرائيلي إيلي كوهين المصادقة على اتفاق ضخم لتصدير الغاز تم التوصل إليه أخيرا بين إسرائيل ومصر، بحسب ما أعلن مكتب كوهين.
وفي أغسطس، وقع حقل «ليفياثان» الإسرائيلي اتفاقًا بقيمة 35 مليار دولار لتصدير الغاز الطبيعي إلى مصر، وهو أكبر اتفاق تصدير في تاريخ إسرائيل، وفقًا ما أوردت صحيفة «تايمز أوف إسرائيل»، اليوم(الجمعة).
وأعلن مكتب كوهين أنه لن يوافق على الاتفاق حتى يتم التوصل إلى «أسعار عادلة للسوق الإسرائيلية»، مضيفًا أن إدارة الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب مارست ضغوطًا كبيرة على كوهين ورئيس الوزراء بنيامين نتنياهو للمصادقة على الاتفاق، وفق ما أفادت وكالة الأنباء الألمانية.
وكشفت صحيفة «إسرائيل هيوم» أن شركة «شيفرون» الأمريكية العملاقة للطاقة، والتي تدير الحقل، تضغط على إسرائيل للمصادقة على الاتفاق مع مصر.
فيما طالب كوهين، بأن تبقى الأسعار للسوق الإسرائيلية جذابة، مضيفًا: وبما أن المفاوضات لم تستكمل بعد، فقد رفض كوهين المصادقة على التصدير حتى يتم حل هذه المسألة.
وأثار بيان مكتب كوهين توترًا ملحوظًا مع إدارة الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب، في وقت تكثف فيه واشنطن جهودها بالتعاون مع إسرائيل لدفع خطة ترمب للسلام في غزة.
وأضاف مكتب كوهين: «في الوقت نفسه، تبذل جهود لتسوية الجوانب الدبلوماسية بين إسرائيل ومصر».
In what appears to be a new crisis in the strained relations between Egypt and Israel, U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright canceled his scheduled six-day visit to Israel after his Israeli counterpart, Eli Cohen, refused to endorse a massive gas export agreement recently reached between Israel and Egypt, according to Cohen's office.
In August, the Israeli "Leviathan" field signed a $35 billion agreement to export natural gas to Egypt, marking the largest export deal in Israel's history, according to the "Times of Israel" newspaper today (Friday).
Cohen's office announced that he would not approve the agreement until "fair prices for the Israeli market" are reached, adding that the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump exerted significant pressure on Cohen and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to endorse the agreement, as reported by the German news agency.
The newspaper "Israel Hayom" revealed that the American energy giant "Chevron," which operates the field, is pressuring Israel to endorse the agreement with Egypt.
Cohen demanded that prices for the Israeli market remain attractive, adding: Since the negotiations have not yet been completed, Cohen refused to endorse the export until this issue is resolved.
Cohen's office's statement has caused noticeable tension with the administration of President Donald Trump, at a time when Washington is intensifying its efforts in cooperation with Israel to advance Trump's peace plan in Gaza.
Cohen's office added: "At the same time, efforts are being made to settle the diplomatic aspects between Israel and Egypt."
