أعلن زعيم المعارضة في الكاميرون عيسى تشيروما بكاري، اليوم (الأربعاء)، رفضه إعلان المجلس الدستوري فوز الرئيس بول بيا بالانتخابات التي جرت في 12 أكتوبر.
وقال تشيروما، في أول خطاب علني له منذ أن أكد المجلس الدستوري فوز بيا بولاية ثامنة: «حقيقة الاقتراع واضحة، لقد فزنا في هذه الانتخابات بأغلبية كبيرة، هذا الفوز ليس لي وحدي، إنه ملك للشعب الكاميروني»، مضيفاً: «لن نرضخ للخوف، سنبقى متحدين وسنواصل المقاومة حتى تحقيق النصر».
انتصار وهمي
ووصف تشيروما الإعلان بأنه «انتصار وهمي» وتعهد بمقاومته.
ويحكم الرئيس بول بيا (92 عاماً)، وهو أكبر قادة دول العالم سناً، الكاميرون منذ عام 1982، إذ أدت إعادة انتخابه إلى تعميق التوتر في الدولة المنتجة للكاكاو والنفط، ويتهمه منتقدوه باستغلال مؤسسات الدولة للبقاء في السلطة.
وتصاعدت احتجاجات عنيفة ببلدات عدة في الكاميرون، (الاثنين)، بعد إعلان المجلس، الذي يعد نهائياً، ولا يمكن الطعن عليه.
وأفادت وسائل إعلام محلية أن ما لا يقل عن 10 أشخاص قُتلوا في أعمال العنف، عندما خرج المئات إلى الشوارع للتنديد بتزوير الانتخابات.
وكان مرشح المعارضة تشيروما قد أعلن قبل أسبوعين فوزه في الانتخابات الرئاسية، وقال تشيروما في كلمة، آنذاك: «انتصارنا واضح، يجب احترامه، لقد اختار الشعب ويجب احترام هذا الاختيار».
انشقاق المرشح
وانشق تشيروما (76 عاماً)، المتحدث السابق باسم الحكومة ووزير العمل السابق، عن بيا في وقت سابق من هذا العام، وشن حملة استقطبت حشوداً كبيرة وتأييداً من ائتلاف من أحزاب المعارضة والجماعات المدنية.
ويسمح القانون الانتخابي في الكاميرون بنشر النتائج في مراكز الاقتراع، ولكن يجب أن تتم المصادقة على النتائج النهائية من قبل المجلس الدستوري، الذي لديه مهلة حتى 26 أكتوبر، لإعلان النتيجة.
The leader of the opposition in Cameroon, Isa Chiruma Bakari, announced today (Wednesday) his rejection of the Constitutional Council's declaration of President Paul Biya's victory in the elections held on October 12.
Chiruma stated in his first public speech since the Constitutional Council confirmed Biya's eighth term: "The truth of the ballot is clear; we won this election by a large majority. This victory is not mine alone; it belongs to the Cameroonian people," adding, "We will not succumb to fear; we will remain united and continue to resist until we achieve victory."
Illusory Victory
Chiruma described the announcement as an "illusory victory" and pledged to resist it.
President Paul Biya (92 years old), the oldest leader in the world, has ruled Cameroon since 1982, and his re-election has deepened tensions in the cocoa and oil-producing nation. Critics accuse him of exploiting state institutions to remain in power.
Violent protests erupted in several towns in Cameroon on Monday following the announcement by the council, which is final and cannot be contested.
Local media reported that at least 10 people were killed in the violence as hundreds took to the streets to denounce electoral fraud.
Opposition candidate Chiruma had declared his victory in the presidential elections two weeks ago, stating in a speech at that time: "Our victory is clear; it must be respected. The people have chosen, and this choice must be respected."
Candidate's Defection
Chiruma (76 years old), a former government spokesperson and former Minister of Labor, defected from Biya earlier this year and launched a campaign that attracted large crowds and support from a coalition of opposition parties and civil groups.
The electoral law in Cameroon allows for the publication of results at polling stations, but the final results must be validated by the Constitutional Council, which has until October 26 to announce the outcome.
