كشفت مصادر لبنانية مطلعة، اليوم (الأربعاء)، طرح المبعوثة الأمريكية إلى لبنان مورغان أورتاغوس إمكانية تمديد عمل لجنة مراقبة وقف إطلاق النار (الميكانيزم)
وحطَت الموفدة الأمريكية أورتاغوس في بيروت قادمة من تل أبيب، والتقت أمس، الرؤساء الثلاثة قبل أن تشارك في اجتماعات لجنة مراقبة وقف إطلاق النار (الميكانيزم) في الناقورة جنوبي لبنان.
زيارة جنوب لبنان
وتعمل اللجنة جنوبي لبنان عند حدوده مع إسرائيل، لكن أورتاغوس اقترحت إمكانية أن تتابع اللجنة كل الحدود اللبنانية وليس فقط جنوباً، ويأتي المقترح في ضوء ورود تقارير عن تهريب حزب الله أسلحة عبر حدود لبنان.
وترافقت زيارة أورتاغوس مع معلومات عن إصرار أمريكي على ضرورة دخول لبنان في مفاوضات مع إسرائيل لوقف التصعيد ومواكبة ذلك مع تنفيذ خطة الجيش لحصر السلاح.
وذكرت مصادر مطلعة أن الموفدة الأمريكية ناقشت إمكانية توسيع أعضاء اللجنة لتضم مدنيين، على أن تتولى هي شخصيا تمثيل الجانب الأمريكي من المدنيين.
لجنة «الميكانيزم»
يذكر أن لجنة «الميكانيزم» برئاسة جنرال أمريكي وعضوية فرنسا ولبنان وإسرائيل، وقوة الأمم المتحدة المؤقتة «اليونيفيل»، تتولى الإشراف على تطبيق اتفاق وقف إطلاق النار بين لبنان وإسرائيل، الذي دخل حيز التنفيذ في 27 نوفمبر من العام الماضي، لكن إسرائيل حتى اللحظة لم تلتزم بالاتفاق، ولا تزال قواتها تنفذ عمليات تجريف وتفجير، وتشن بشكل شبه يومي غارات جنوبي لبنان تقول إنها تستهدف بنى تحتية لحزب الله، كما لا تزال قواتها متواجدة في 5 نقاط داخل الأراضي اللبنانية.
Informed Lebanese sources revealed today (Wednesday) that the American envoy to Lebanon, Morgan Ortagus, proposed the possibility of extending the work of the ceasefire monitoring committee (the mechanism).
The American envoy Ortagus arrived in Beirut from Tel Aviv and met yesterday with the three presidents before participating in meetings of the ceasefire monitoring committee (the mechanism) in Naqoura, southern Lebanon.
Visit to Southern Lebanon
The committee operates in southern Lebanon at its borders with Israel, but Ortagus suggested the possibility of the committee monitoring all Lebanese borders, not just the south. This proposal comes in light of reports about Hezbollah smuggling weapons across Lebanon's borders.
Ortagus's visit was accompanied by information about a strong American insistence on the necessity for Lebanon to enter into negotiations with Israel to halt the escalation, alongside the implementation of the army's plan to restrict weapons.
Informed sources mentioned that the American envoy discussed the possibility of expanding the committee's members to include civilians, with her personally representing the American side of the civilians.
The "Mechanism" Committee
It is worth noting that the "mechanism" committee, chaired by an American general and including members from France, Lebanon, and Israel, along with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), oversees the implementation of the ceasefire agreement between Lebanon and Israel, which came into effect on November 27 of last year. However, Israel has not yet adhered to the agreement, and its forces continue to carry out land-clearing and bombing operations, conducting near-daily airstrikes in southern Lebanon that they claim target Hezbollah's infrastructure. Additionally, its forces remain present at five points inside Lebanese territory.
