فيما أعلن الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب إرجاء القمة التي كان مقررا أن تجمعه مع نظيره الروسي فلاديمير بوتين خلال الأسبوع القادم، إلى أجل غير مسمى، أكد الكرملين أن موعد تلك القمة لم يحدد في الأساس لكي يلغى.
وقال المتحدث باسم الكرملين ديميتري بيسكوف في تصريح صحفي، اليوم (الجمعة):«نرفض الادعاءات بأن قمة بودابست ألغيت، لأن التوقيت لم يتم تحديده منذ البداية».
ونقلت وكالة تاس الروسية عن بيسكوف قوله: إن موسكو تحلل تأثير العقوبات الغربية الأخيرة، وستتصرف وفقاً لمصالحها.
ولفت إلى تصريحات الرئيس بوتين أمس، مؤكداً أنه تعهد «برد ساحق» على محاولات ضرب العمق الروسي.
وكان بوتين قلل من آثار العقوبات الأمريكية الجديدة التي استهدفت شركتي النفط الروسيتين العملاقتين «روسنفت»، و«لوك أويل»، معتبراً أنها جديدة ولكنها لن تحمل آثاراً كبيرة على الاقتصاد الروسي.
ولفت إلى أن الحوار يشكل السبيل الأفضل دوماً للتفاعهم، مؤكدا أن الأمريكيين هم من عرضوا في البداية اللقاء في بودابست. وحذر الرئيس الروسي من أن أي استهداف للداخل الروسي بصواريخ بعيدة المدى من قبل أوكرانيا سيواجه برد ساحق، غير متوقع.
ووصف ترمب بعد إعلانه تأجيل لقاء كان مقررا بينه وبوتين في بودابست إلى أجل غير مسمى، أن محادثاته مع الرئيس الروسي «عقيمة». وقال في تصريحات صحفية «في كل مرّة أتحدث مع فلاديمير، أجري محادثات جيدة لكنها تبقى عقيمة في نهاية المطاف، إذ لا تفضي إلى أي اختراق».
وعبر الرئيس الأمريكي أخيرا عن امتعاضه مما وصفها مماطلة نظيره الروسي في وقف الحرب على أوكرانيا، على الرغم من تأكيده بأن علاقات جيدة تجمعه ببوتين.
وسعى ترمب إلى تكثيف الجهود من أجل إنهاء الحرب، تنفيذاً لوعود عدة كان أطلقها خلال حملتها الانتخابية، فيما تمسك الكرملين بشروط اعتبرها جذرية من أجل إنهاء الصراع وإرساء سلام طويل الأمد مع كييف.
While U.S. President Donald Trump announced the postponement of the summit that was scheduled to bring him together with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin next week, indefinitely, the Kremlin confirmed that the date for that summit had not been set in the first place to be canceled.
The Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated in a press statement today (Friday): "We reject the claims that the Budapest summit was canceled, as the timing was not determined from the beginning."
Russian news agency TASS quoted Peskov as saying that Moscow is analyzing the impact of the recent Western sanctions and will act according to its interests.
He pointed to President Putin's statements yesterday, emphasizing that he pledged a "crushing response" to attempts to strike at the Russian heartland.
Putin had downplayed the effects of the new U.S. sanctions targeting the two giant Russian oil companies, "Rosneft" and "Lukoil," considering them new but not likely to have significant effects on the Russian economy.
He noted that dialogue is always the best way to interact, confirming that the Americans were the ones who initially proposed the meeting in Budapest. The Russian president warned that any targeting of Russian territory with long-range missiles by Ukraine would face a crushing and unexpected response.
Trump, after announcing the postponement of a meeting that was scheduled between him and Putin in Budapest indefinitely, described his talks with the Russian president as "fruitless." He said in press statements, "Every time I talk to Vladimir, I have good conversations, but they ultimately remain fruitless, as they do not lead to any breakthroughs."
The U.S. president recently expressed his displeasure at what he described as his Russian counterpart's procrastination in ending the war in Ukraine, despite confirming that he has a good relationship with Putin.
Trump sought to intensify efforts to end the war, fulfilling several promises he made during his election campaign, while the Kremlin insisted on conditions it considered fundamental to ending the conflict and establishing a long-term peace with Kyiv.
