The office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced today (Saturday) that the Rafah crossing will remain closed until further notice, stating that the consideration of opening it will be linked to how Hamas implements the Gaza agreement and the return of the bodies of the prisoners.
Netanyahu's office said: "Hamas must fulfill its obligations to the mediators and return the bodies as part of the implementation of the agreement," clarifying that Israel will spare no effort until all detained bodies are returned.
The Palestinian embassy in Egypt had stated earlier today that the Rafah border crossing will reopen next Monday, confirming that the aim of opening the crossing is to allow Palestinians residing in Egypt to return to Gaza.
The United Nations and relief organizations have repeatedly called for the reopening of the Rafah crossing to help address the acute humanitarian crisis in Gaza, following the two-year-long war.
The Rafah crossing is one of the main crossings that connect Gaza to the outside world, and its reopening is an important step given the deteriorating humanitarian conditions in the sector.
