أعلنت الشرطة الأمريكية اليوم (الأحد) مقتل 4 أشخاص وإصابة ما لا يقل عن 20 آخرين في حادثة إطلاق نار داخل مطعم ببلدة على جزيرة سانت هيلينا، بولاية ساوث كارولاينا الأمريكية.
تفاصيل الجريمة
وقال مكتب قائد شرطة مقاطعة بيوفورت بالولاية: "الشرطة تلقت بلاغاً قبل الساعة الواحدة صباحاً بقليل، وتوجهت إلى موقع الحادثة في حانة «ويليز بار آند غريل»، وعثرت على عدة أشخاص مصابين بجروح ناجمة عن طلقات نارية، من بينهم 4 في حالة حرجة"، موضحاً أن مئات الأشخاص كانوا داخل الحانة وقت وقوع إطلاق النار.
وبينما لم يتم الكشف عن أسماء الضحايا، في انتظار إخطار ذويهم، امتنع مكتب قائد الشرطة عن الإدلاء بمزيد من التفاصيل لحين تقدم التحقيقات، واصفاً ما حدث بـ«المأساوي والصعب على الجميع».
انقسام على أسباب الجرائم
وتعد جزيرة سانت هيلينا مركزاً تاريخياً لثقافة الأمريكيين من أصل أفريقي، لكن تزايدت حوادث إطلاق النار العشوائي خلال العقد الماضي في الولايات المتحدة وامتدت إلى هذه الجزيرة.
وانعكست هذه الحوادث على الوضع العام الذي ظهر منقسماً سياسياً حول سبل التصدي لهذه الظاهرة. ويطالب الديموقراطيون بفرض قيود أكثر صرامة على امتلاك الأسلحة النارية، فيما يتمسك الجمهوريون بحقوق حمل السلاح، ويطالبون بتطبيق أكثر فاعلية للقوانين القائمة.
The American police announced today (Sunday) the death of 4 people and the injury of at least 20 others in a shooting incident inside a restaurant in a town on Saint Helena Island, South Carolina, USA.
Details of the Crime
The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office stated: "The police received a report shortly before 1 AM and responded to the scene at 'Wiley's Bar & Grill,' where they found several people injured by gunfire, including 4 in critical condition," explaining that hundreds of people were inside the bar at the time of the shooting.
While the names of the victims have not been disclosed, pending notification of their families, the sheriff's office refrained from providing further details until the investigation progresses, describing what happened as "tragic and difficult for everyone."
Division on the Causes of Crime
Saint Helena Island is a historic center for African American culture, but incidents of random gunfire have increased over the past decade in the United States and have extended to this island.
These incidents have reflected a generally divided political situation regarding ways to address this phenomenon. Democrats are calling for stricter restrictions on gun ownership, while Republicans insist on the right to bear arms and demand more effective enforcement of existing laws.
