كشفت وسائل إعلام رسمية، اليوم (السبت)، أن الزعيم الكوري الشمالي كيم جونغ أون وجّه باستخدام جميع الموارد لدعم البرنامج النووي لبلاده من أجل «شحذ الدرع والسيف النوويين» لحماية السيادة والأمن الوطني، في وقت رجح مسؤول كوري جنوبي إمكانية انعقاد اجتماع بين واشنطن وبيونغ يانغ هذا العام.
وأفادت وكالة الأنباء المركزية الكورية بأن كيم التقى، أمس الجمعة، مسؤولين وعلماء كبار في معاهد أبحاث الأسلحة النووية في كوريا الشمالية، مؤكداً أن الأولوية القصوى للبلاد تركز على مواصلة تطوير موقف الرد النووي.
ونقلت الوكالة عن أون قوله: يجب علينا شحذ وتجديد الدرع والسيف النوويين باستمرار، لضمان السيادة الوطنية والأمن والمصالح والحق في التنمية بشكل موثوق.
من جانبه، قال الرئيس الكوري الجنوبي لي-جيه ميونغ: إن كورسيا الشمالية سعت لعقود من الزمن إلى تنفيذ برنامج للأسلحة النووية، وشملت جهودها عملية سرية لتخصيب اليورانيوم سمحت بإنتاج ما يصل إلى 20 سلاحاً نووياً كل عام.
اجتماع مرتقب بين واشنطن وبيونغ يانغ
في غضون ذلك، لم يستبعد مسؤول في وزارة الخارجية الكورية الجنوبية إمكانية عقد اجتماع بين كوريا الشمالية والولايات المتحدة على هامش منتدى التعاون الاقتصادي لآسيا والمحيط الهادي (أبيك) الذي تستضيفه سيول هذا العام.
وأفاد المسؤول في نيويورك بأن محادثات من هذا النوع قد تجري على هامش منتدى أبيك الذي تنطلق أعماله أواخر أكتوبر القادم.
ويخيّم الجمود على العلاقات بين بيونغ يانغ وواشنطن منذ انهارت قمة عالية المستوى بين الزعيم الكوري الشمالي كيم جونغ أون والرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب في 2019 على خلفية مسألة تخفيف العقوبات وتنازلات بيونغ يانغ النووية.
وأعلنت كوريا الشمالية أنها دولة نووية ولن تتراجع عن ذلك، رغم أن كيم أعلن أخيراً استعداده لإعادة إطلاق حوار مع واشنطن.
والتقى ترمب وكيم في بانمونجوم، وهي قرية في المنطقة منزوعة السلاح الفاصلة بين الكوريتين اللتين تعتبران عملياً في حالة حرب. واجتمع الزعيمان 3 مرات إبّان ولاية ترمب الأولى، ونوه الرئيس الأمريكي بالعلاقات الودية التي تربطهما.
إلا أن القمة الأخيرة انهارت في هانوي عام 2019 بعد الخلاف بشأن التنازلات التي ستقدمها بيونغ يانغ في ما يتعلق ببرنامجها النووي، إلا أن ترمب كشف في أغسطس أنه يأمل بلقاء كيم مجدداً، ربما هذا العام.
Official media revealed today (Saturday) that North Korean leader Kim Jong Un directed the use of all resources to support his country's nuclear program in order to "sharpen the nuclear shield and sword" to protect national sovereignty and security, at a time when a South Korean official suggested the possibility of a meeting between Washington and Pyongyang this year.
The Korean Central News Agency reported that Kim met yesterday (Friday) with senior officials and scientists at North Korea's nuclear weapons research institutes, emphasizing that the country's top priority focuses on continuing to develop its nuclear response posture.
The agency quoted Kim as saying: We must continuously sharpen and renew the nuclear shield and sword to reliably ensure national sovereignty, security, interests, and the right to development.
For his part, South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol stated that North Korea has sought for decades to implement a nuclear weapons program, and its efforts included a secret process for enriching uranium that allowed for the production of up to 20 nuclear weapons each year.
Anticipated Meeting Between Washington and Pyongyang
Meanwhile, a South Korean Foreign Ministry official did not rule out the possibility of a meeting between North Korea and the United States on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum hosted by Seoul this year.
The official in New York stated that talks of this kind could take place on the sidelines of the APEC forum, which will commence in late October.
Stalemate has overshadowed relations between Pyongyang and Washington since the high-level summit between North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and U.S. President Donald Trump collapsed in 2019 over issues of sanctions relief and nuclear concessions from Pyongyang.
North Korea has declared itself a nuclear state and will not back down from that, although Kim recently announced his willingness to resume dialogue with Washington.
Trump and Kim met in Panmunjom, a village in the demilitarized zone separating the two Koreas, which are practically in a state of war. The two leaders held three meetings during Trump's first term, and the U.S. president noted the friendly relations between them.
However, the last summit collapsed in Hanoi in 2019 after disagreements over the concessions that Pyongyang would offer regarding its nuclear program, but Trump revealed in August that he hopes to meet Kim again, possibly this year.
