أعلن الرئيس السوري أحمد الشرع، اليوم (الأحد)، أنه سيناقش مع الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب مستقبل العلاقة بين البلدين، مشيداً بالخطوات التي اتخذها نظيره الأمريكي.
وشدد الشرع في مقابلة مع شبكة «سي بي إس»، عقب وصوله إلى نيويورك، على ضرورة استعادة العلاقات الأمريكية - السورية بشكل جيد ومباشر، مبيناً أن العالم خذل سورية في الماضي، لكن اليوم بإمكان الجميع المساعدة برفع العقوبات.
وشدد الشرع على العمل لإعادة اللاجئين السوريين إلى بلادهم.
وكان المكتب الإعلامي لرئاسة الجمهورية السورية أعلن أن الرئيس أحمد الشرع توجه إلى الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية للمشاركة في أعمال الجمعية العامة للأمم المتحدة بنيويورك في دورتها الثمانين، مبينة أنه غادر برفقة وفد دبلوماسي رفيع المستوى.
وذكرت وكالة الأنباء السورية أن الشرع سيكون أول رئيس سوري يتحدث من على منبر الأمم المتحدة منذ حرب يونيو 1967 مع إسرائيل.

Syrian President Ahmad al-Shara announced today (Sunday) that he will discuss the future of relations between the two countries with U.S. President Donald Trump, praising the steps taken by his American counterpart.
Al-Shara emphasized in an interview with CBS, following his arrival in New York, the necessity of restoring American-Syrian relations in a good and direct manner, indicating that the world has let Syria down in the past, but today everyone can help lift the sanctions.
Al-Shara stressed the need to work on returning Syrian refugees to their homeland.
The media office of the Syrian presidency announced that President Ahmad al-Shara headed to the United States to participate in the proceedings of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, stating that he left accompanied by a high-level diplomatic delegation.
The Syrian news agency reported that al-Shara will be the first Syrian president to speak from the United Nations podium since the June 1967 war with Israel.
