ألمح نائب رئيس الوزراء البريطاني ديفيد لامي إلى إمكانية تراجع الحكومة البريطانية عن قرارها بمنع الطلاب الفلسطينيين من إحضار أطفالهم إلى المملكة المتحدة.
ويأتي هذا التلميح بعد قرار الخارجية البريطانية السماح لـ34 طالبا فلسطينيا، بينهم طلاب منحة «شيفنينغ»، بمواصلة دراستهم في الجامعات البريطانية، مع منعهم من اصطحاب أطفالهم.
مأساة طالبة فلسطينية
منار الحوبي، إحدى الطالبات الفلسطينيات، أعربت عن صدمتها لهيئة الإذاعة البريطانية «BBC»، قائلة إنها تلقت بريدا إلكترونيا من مكتب الخارجية والتنمية (FCDO) قبل أيام من إجلائها، يفيد بمنعها من إحضار زوجها وأطفالها الثلاثة الصغار، وأضافت: «من المستحيل أن أترك أطفالي خلفي».
وأثار القرار جدلا واسعا، إذ عبر مجلس اللاجئين وجامعة أكسفورد عن قلقهما إزاء منع نحو 20 طفلا من مرافقة والديهم الطلاب إلى بريطانيا.
وقال إنفر سولومون، الرئيس التنفيذي لمجلس اللاجئين: «من القسوة البالغة إجبار الطلاب الفارين من الدمار المروع في غزة على اختيار بين تعليمهم وعائلاتهم».
موقف الحكومة البريطانية
وفي مقابلة على قناة «BBC1»، أشار لامي إلى أن وزيرة الخارجية الجديدة يفيت كوبر، ووزيرة الداخلية، على دراية بالقضية، وأن الحكومة تسعى لتجنب إلحاق المزيد من الألم بالطلاب.
وأكد أن الطلاب الـ34، الذين يشملون أربعة أطباء على الأقل، تم إجلاؤهم من غزة، يوم الأربعاء، ومن المتوقع وصولهم إلى المملكة المتحدة مطلع الأسبوع القادم للالتحاق بجامعاتهم بمنح دراسية ممولة بالكامل.
يأتي هذا الإجلاء بعد أشهر من الحملات التي قادها سياسيون وأكاديميون لدعم أكثر من 100 طالب فلسطيني حصلوا على قبول من جامعات بريطانية هذا العام.
ما هو برنامح «شيفنينغ»؟
وتضم المجموعة طلابا ضمن برنامج «شيفنينغ»، وهو برنامج منح دراسية ممول بشكل رئيسي من الحكومة البريطانية للحصول على درجة الماجستير لمدة عام.

This hint comes after the British Foreign Office decided to allow 34 Palestinian students, including Chevening scholarship recipients, to continue their studies at British universities, while prohibiting them from bringing their children.
The Tragedy of a Palestinian Student
Manar Al-Houbi, one of the Palestinian students, expressed her shock to the BBC, stating that she received an email from the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) days before her evacuation, informing her that she was not allowed to bring her husband and her three young children. She added, "It is impossible for me to leave my children behind."
The decision sparked widespread controversy, as the Refugee Council and the University of Oxford expressed their concern about preventing around 20 children from accompanying their student parents to the UK.
Inver Solomon, the CEO of the Refugee Council, stated, "It is extremely cruel to force students fleeing the horrific destruction in Gaza to choose between their education and their families."
The British Government's Position
In an interview on BBC1, Lammy indicated that the new Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper and the Home Secretary are aware of the issue, and that the government is seeking to avoid causing further pain to the students.
He confirmed that the 34 students, which include at least four doctors, were evacuated from Gaza on Wednesday, and are expected to arrive in the UK early next week to join their universities on fully funded scholarships.
This evacuation comes after months of campaigns led by politicians and academics to support over 100 Palestinian students who received offers from British universities this year.
