The Egyptian Foreign Minister, Badr Abdel Aati, emphasized today (Saturday) the importance of Israel's response to the proposed deal to de-escalate tensions, save the lives of the Palestinian people, allow humanitarian and relief aid to flow, and release hostages and prisoners, during a phone call with the U.S. Special Envoy for the Middle East, Steve Hanke.

The Egyptian Foreign Ministry stated in a statement that the call addressed joint efforts to reach a ceasefire in Gaza, based on the elements proposed by the U.S. envoy, noting that Abdel Aati reviewed the rapidly deteriorating catastrophic humanitarian conditions that have reached the point of famine.

The Weapon of Starvation

The Egyptian Foreign Minister warned of "the dangers and consequences of the expansion of military operations in Gaza and the continued use of starvation as a weapon."

Abdel Aati informed the U.S. envoy about Egypt's preparations to host an international conference for early recovery and reconstruction as soon as a ceasefire is announced, in accordance with the Arab-Islamic plan that was adopted at the Arab summit in Cairo last March.

The Iranian Nuclear File

In another context, the Egyptian Foreign Minister discussed with Hanke the developments regarding the Iranian nuclear file.

Abdel Aati addressed the efforts and communications aimed at creating the conditions for resuming negotiations, bridging viewpoints, and providing opportunities for diplomatic solutions and dialogue with the aim of reaching a sustainable settlement that considers the interests of all parties and contributes to de-escalation, restoring trust, and creating a supportive environment for achieving security and regional stability in the Middle East.
