أقال وزير الدفاع الأمريكي بيت هيغسيث قائدة قوات الاحتياط البحرية، ورئيس قيادة العمليات الخاصة بالبحرية الأمريكية، وفق ما نقلته وكالة «أسوشييتد برس» عن مسؤول أمريكي.
وفي وقت سابق، أصدر هيغسيث أمراً بتسليح قوات الحرس الوطني التي تُسيّر دوريات في شوارع واشنطن لمواجهة حملة الرئيس دونالد ترمب القمعية لإنفاذ القانون.
ولم تُقدّم وزارة الدفاع الأمريكية أي تفاصيل أخرى حول هذا التطور الجديد أو سبب ضرورته.
وكان هيغسيث قد أقال، في وقت سابق، مدير وكالة الاستخبارات الدفاعية جيفري كروس، ليكون أحدث مسؤول عسكري أو استخباراتي رفيع يخسر منصبه في إطار حملة تستهدف وكالات الأمن القومي.
The U.S. Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth, dismissed the commander of the Navy Reserve and the head of the U.S. Navy Special Operations Command, according to a report by the Associated Press citing an American official.
Earlier, Hegseth issued an order to arm the National Guard troops patrolling the streets of Washington in response to President Donald Trump's repressive campaign to enforce the law.
The U.S. Department of Defense did not provide any further details regarding this new development or the reasons for its necessity.
Hegseth had previously dismissed the director of the Defense Intelligence Agency, Jeffrey Cross, making him the latest senior military or intelligence official to lose their position as part of a campaign targeting national security agencies.
