أعلنت وزارة الخارجية الأوغندية، اليوم (الخميس)، إبرام اتفاق مع أمريكا لاستقبال أفراد من دول ثالثة ممن قد يكونون غير مؤهلين للحصول على حق اللجوء في أمريكا لكنهم لا يرغبون في العودة إلى أوطانهم.
وقال المسؤول بالخارجية الأوغندية، فينسنت باجير وايسوا، في بيان: «هذا ترتيب مؤقت بشروط من بينها عدم قبول أفراد لديهم سجلات إجرامية، أو قصّر لا يرافقهم ذووهم»، مضيفاً: «أوغندا تفضل استقبال رعايا دول إفريقية بموجب الاتفاق».
وكان مسؤول آخر في وزارة الخارجية الأوغندية قد نفى، أمس، تقريراً إعلامياً أمريكياً يفيد بأن الدولة الواقعة في شرق إفريقيا وافقت على استقبال مرحلين من الولايات المتحدة، موضحاً أن بلاده تفتقر إلى المرافق اللازمة لاستيعابهم.
وتستضيف أوغندا، حليفة واشنطن في شرق إفريقيا، نحو مليوني لاجئ وطالب لجوء، معظمهم من دول في المنطقة مثل جمهورية الكونغو الديمقراطية، وجنوب السودان، والسودان.
ويسعى الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب إلى ترحيل ملايين المهاجرين ممن دخلوا الولايات المتحدة بشكل غير قانوني، وتعمل إدارته على زيادة عمليات الترحيل إلى دول ثالثة، بما في ذلك إرسال مجرمين مدانين إلى جنوب السودان وإسواتيني.
وكانت شبكة (سي بي أس نيوز) الأمريكية، قد ذكرت أن الولايات المتحدة أبرمت اتفاقيات ترحيل مع دولتي هندوراس وأوغندا، في إطار سعيها لإبرام اتفاقيات إضافية تسمح لها بترحيل من يقيمون في البلاد بشكل غير قانوني إلى دول ثالثة.
The Ugandan Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced today (Thursday) that it has reached an agreement with the United States to accept individuals from third countries who may not be eligible for asylum in the U.S. but do not wish to return to their home countries.
Vincent Bagire Waiswa, an official at the Ugandan Foreign Ministry, stated in a statement: "This is a temporary arrangement with conditions, including not accepting individuals with criminal records or minors unaccompanied by their guardians," adding: "Uganda prefers to receive nationals from African countries under this agreement."
Another official from the Ugandan Foreign Ministry denied yesterday a U.S. media report stating that the East African nation had agreed to accept deportees from the United States, clarifying that the country lacks the necessary facilities to accommodate them.
Uganda, a U.S. ally in East Africa, hosts around two million refugees and asylum seekers, most of whom come from neighboring countries such as the Democratic Republic of the Congo, South Sudan, and Sudan.
U.S. President Donald Trump is seeking to deport millions of immigrants who entered the United States illegally, and his administration is working to increase deportation operations to third countries, including sending convicted criminals to South Sudan and Eswatini.
The American network (CBS News) reported that the United States has reached deportation agreements with Honduras and Uganda as part of its efforts to establish additional agreements that would allow it to deport individuals residing in the country illegally to third countries.
