A leader in ISIS was killed during an air assault carried out by the international coalition, which targeted a house in the town of Atmeh in northern Idlib, northwestern Syria. A security source revealed the identity of the leader involved in the Atmeh operation, named Salah Numan, who was using the alias Ali. He is of Iraqi nationality and a leader in the terrorist organization.
A security source announced today (Wednesday) that the coalition forces executed an air assault targeting a house in the town of Atmeh, and it was found that the target of the operation was a person known as "Ali," who was renting the house.
He added that when the house was stormed, the individual known as "Ali" attempted to escape by jumping from the balcony to the backyard, but the coalition forces, which had surrounded the area, opened fire on him, resulting in his immediate death.
The source pointed out that the forces searched the entire house and confiscated all mobile phones and electronic devices, and the owner of the house was interrogated. He clarified that after the operation concluded, all participating forces withdrew, and Ali's body was found in the garden, later transported to Bab al-Hawa hospital.
He disclosed that "Numan" was one of the most dangerous wanted individuals for his involvement in activating and moving the organization’s cells within Syria, noting that after being pursued by the internal security apparatus in the town of Dana in Idlib countryside, he sought refuge in a house in the village of Atmeh, where he was hiding with his wife, child, and mother. The source confirmed that the operation did not result in any injuries or captives from the target's family.
ISIS, which controlled vast areas in Syria and Iraq in 2014, has suffered a significant defeat since 2017, with its capabilities greatly diminished and its forces reduced. However, some of its cells are still active in the Syrian desert and some desert areas in Iraq.
Meanwhile, the head of internal security in Hama province, Syria, Brigadier General Malham Mahmoud al-Shantout, announced the arrest of Ratib Fahd al-Hussein, described as "one of the most dangerous war criminals" in Mahardah.
He reported that al-Hussein served as the head of the military security detachment in the Mahardah area during the previous regime, during which he committed numerous war crimes targeting the residents of the rebellious areas, resulting in the deaths of dozens of civilians due to mass massacres.
He explained that this step is part of the ongoing efforts of the internal security forces to pursue war criminals and hold them accountable before the competent judiciary, affirming that the hand of justice will reach anyone whose hands are stained with the blood of Syrians.
