Trump had previously stated in remarks to Fox News that "this meeting with Putin paves the way for a very important second meeting" with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

He hinted that negotiations regarding land exchanges between Russia and Ukraine are likely to take place later, a notion opposed by Zelensky.

The American president emphasized that it is not his responsibility to strike a deal with his Russian counterpart.

He announced that his top priority at the Alaska summit will be to discuss the possibility of a ceasefire in Ukraine.

European countries and Ukraine are eagerly awaiting the results of the anticipated summit this evening between the two presidents, which will address the Ukrainian issue and the cessation of war.

European leaders and Kyiv are concerned about the possibility of the American president obliging the Ukrainian side to make concessions to the Russians during the summit, which prompted them a few days ago to hold an "online" meeting with Trump, in which he pledged to provide security guarantees to Ukraine.

The American president hinted yesterday (Thursday) during a press briefing that if parts of the meeting with Putin are positive, he may contact Zelensky or some European leaders; however, if the opposite occurs, he will not contact anyone. He suggested that he would know the atmosphere of the meeting from the first few minutes—according to his expression.
