The Russian Ministry of Defense announced the downing of 25 Ukrainian drones over its territory, while U.S. President Donald Trump urged Ukraine and Russia to exchange some territories in order to end the war.
Russian news agency TASS reported today (Tuesday) that the Ministry of Defense stated that air defenses shot down 25 Ukrainian drones overnight in the Rostov and Stavropol regions.
For its part, the authorities of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic, which is loyal to Russia (eastern Ukraine), accused the Ukrainian armed forces of killing 4 civilians due to their ongoing artillery shelling of residential areas.
The Russian and Ukrainian forces exchange drone and ballistic missile attacks daily targeting cities, energy systems, civilian factories, and military sites.
Politically, the U.S. president said he would hold constructive talks with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on Friday in Alaska regarding ending the war in Ukraine.
Trump added during a press conference at the White House that he wishes to arrange a meeting between the Russian and Ukrainian presidents, emphasizing that the upcoming settlement will require an exchange of territories, as he put it.
TASS quoted Sergei Ryabkov, the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister, as saying that his country hopes the upcoming meeting between the two presidents will give momentum to normalizing relations between the two countries.
In contrast, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Putin is not preparing for a ceasefire and is only seeking a personal victory by meeting Trump.
He added that intelligence reports indicate that Russian forces are continuing to prepare for new attacks, and there are no signs of ending the war.
Meanwhile, European leaders and the Ukrainian president plan to speak with the U.S. president ahead of the upcoming summit.
EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas stated that any agreement between the U.S. and Russia must include Ukraine and the European Union, stressing that transatlantic unity, support for Ukraine, and pressure on Russia are essential to end the war and prevent future Russian aggression against Europe.
Kallas warned against making concessions to Moscow, stating that as long as Russia has not agreed to a complete and unconditional ceasefire, there should not even be a discussion of any concessions.
On another note, Russian authorities thwarted a terrorist operation in the Moscow region, planned by an agent affiliated with Ukrainian intelligence. The Russian Federal Security Service revealed today that the terrorist operation aimed to assassinate a high-ranking Russian military officer.
The agency announced the arrest of an agent of Ukrainian intelligence who was planning to assassinate the Russian officer. It reported that the operation was to be carried out using a vehicle loaded with up to 60 kilograms of explosives.
According to a statement from the Russian security agency, a person was arrested who was preparing for a terrorist act in the Moscow region, and the identity of an agent from Ukrainian special services named Raven, recruited in a third country, was established. It noted that the accused, based on instructions from the organizer, made an improvised explosive device and hid it in a car purchased with funds provided by the enemy.
It was clarified that the plan was to stop the vehicle, loaded with more than 60 kilograms of explosives, at a location determined by the enemy and detonate it as a high-ranking military officer from the Russian Ministry of Defense passed nearby.
The accused was arrested while on his way to the planned crime scene, and during interrogation, he admitted to cooperating with hostile intelligence agencies. He was offered the opportunity to return to his home country and avoid joining the Ukrainian forces in exchange for committing a terrorist act.
