Lebanese President Joseph Aoun emphasized that there will be no concession on reforms, confirming that they have begun and there will be no turning back despite the difficulties and obstacles facing the country. Aoun stated in remarks from the Baabda Palace today (Monday) that the journey towards achieving all desired reforms is long, but he will continue to work on them.
He added: “We were faced with two options, either to coexist with error and corruption, or to choose reform, and that is why I decided to launch the reform process and take full responsibility.”
He affirmed that the role of the judiciary is very important in combating corruption, noting that the recent judicial formations will contribute to speeding up the work of the judiciary and addressing the cases that are still pending until now.
The Lebanese president considered that the mentality of corruption that prevailed over the past years requires significant efforts to confront it, confirming that matters are now on the right track, and that the principle should be to combat corruption, not to continue it. He believed that there are great opportunities that should be seized at this stage to achieve the desired goals.
He added: “We have faced and will face pressures and criticisms, but in the face of the higher interest of the country, everything becomes trivial, as the interest of the nation is above all considerations.”
The Lebanese president announced last April the launch of the reform process as a fundamental step to address these crises and achieve the necessary change.
Lebanese officials emphasize the necessity of reforming the judicial system and enhancing its independence, as it is the cornerstone in combating corruption. Recently, new judicial formations were issued aimed at expediting the handling of pending cases, which many see as an attempt to restore public trust in institutions.
