The Jordanian authorities confirmed that Israeli settlers attacked a humanitarian aid convoy heading to the Gaza Strip today (Wednesday), in the second incident of its kind in a few days, and accused Israel of not taking firm action to prevent the recurrence of such assaults.
Government spokesman Mohammad Momani stated that the convoy, which included 30 aid trucks, was delayed in reaching its destination in violation of signed agreements.
Earlier, at least 20 Palestinians were killed and dozens were injured late Tuesday/Wednesday night when a truck carrying food aid overturned in the city of Deir al-Balah in the central Gaza Strip, according to Palestinian medical sources and the government media office.
The besieged and devastated Palestinian territory has witnessed a series of similar incidents in recent months, resulting in the deaths and injuries of hundreds of people during attempts to obtain food, amid what humanitarian organizations describe as catastrophic and unprecedented conditions.
International and UN criticisms have been directed at the Israeli side, as well as at the "Gaza Humanitarian Foundation," which has been managing the distribution of aid in Gaza for months under the supervision of the Israeli army.
The distribution operations have experienced significant chaos, and many civilians have been subjected to gunfire while gathering to receive aid, leading to the deaths of hundreds.
The United Nations has repeatedly warned of the risk of famine in the besieged territory, especially with the rising number of victims due to malnutrition. Hospitals in the area recorded 5 new deaths in the past 24 hours due to malnutrition, raising the total number of famine victims to 193, including 96 children.
