The Iraqi Parliament raised its session today (Tuesday), which was dedicated to voting on the appointment of members of the "Federal Service" Council, following significant tension that escalated into a physical altercation between several deputies during the voting.
Informed parliamentary sources in Baghdad reported that the disagreement began with a heated verbal exchange between the deputy from the Coordination Framework, Alaa Al-Haidari, and the deputy from the Azm Alliance, Raad Al-Dahlaki, regarding the voting mechanism and nominations, before it turned into a physical clash, prompting the first deputy speaker of the parliament and a leader in the framework, Mohsen Al-Mandalawi, to adjourn the session due to the altercation.
The sources indicated that the session witnessed a dispute between two deputies, causing chaos within the hall, but a security force from the Kurdish Peshmerga, stationed in the House of Representatives, intervened to resolve the conflict between Al-Haidari and Al-Dahlaki.
The parliament held its session chaired by the first deputy speaker of the House of Representatives, Mohsen Al-Mandalawi, with the attendance of 169 deputies out of 329. During the session, voting took place for the president, vice president, and members of the Federal Service Council, as well as the president of the Council of State, and an item to amend the Ministry of Education law was added to the agenda, while the parliamentary Human Rights Committee announced the withdrawal of the law on the freedom of assembly and peaceful demonstration from the agenda following objections from unions and activists.
The Iraqi President Abdul Latif Rashid had called during his meeting with the first deputy speaker of parliament, Mohsen Al-Mandalawi, earlier today for the necessity of the House of Representatives to fulfill its legislative role in passing the pending laws, reflecting the aspirations of the Iraqi street.
