The Director of the Drug Control Department at the Syrian Ministry of Interior, Brigadier General Khaled Eid, announced today (Sunday) the arrest of one of the most dangerous individuals involved in drug trafficking networks in Syria and the region, confirming that Amer Jdeih Al-Sheikh was apprehended after a meticulous follow-up that lasted for months, according to the Syrian News Agency (SANA).
Eid confirmed that specialized drug control teams were able to identify the movements of Al-Sheikh, who was moving using forged identities and passports in an attempt to evade security pursuit, indicating that through exceptional efforts and high-level security coordination, they were able to track him down until he settled in Turkish territory.
It was noted that within the framework of bilateral cooperation and joint coordination between Syria and Turkey, the Syrian authorities passed accurate information about his movements to the relevant authorities in Ankara, which arrested him and handed him over to the General Administration for Drug Control. The Director of the Drug Control Department stated that Amer Al-Sheikh is one of the major drug traffickers in the region and is wanted by several countries for committing organized and serious crimes related to the manufacture and trafficking of narcotic substances, indicating that the information shows his close ties to international smuggling networks and influential figures, most notably Maher Al-Assad, and that he was overseeing the production and trafficking of drugs to neighboring countries and beyond.
The Syrian Ministry of Interior stated that this operation comes as part of the intensive efforts and ongoing endeavors it is making to confront this dangerous scourge that is ravaging society.
Yesterday, the Internal Security Directorate in the northern countryside of Latakia Province announced the arrest of Nabil Dreyousi for his involvement in numerous war crimes and his participation in the Assad regime's campaigns, including the desecration of the bodies of the Syrian people's dead.
