U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that Washington rejects French President Emmanuel Macron's plan to recognize a Palestinian state, describing it as a "reckless decision."

Rubio stated in a post on X today (Friday) that this decision serves only Hamas propaganda and hinders peace.

Macron announced on Thursday that France intends to recognize a Palestinian state in September at the United Nations General Assembly, expressing hope that this would contribute to achieving peace in the Middle East.

The French president wrote on the platforms "X" and "Instagram": "In fulfillment of its historical commitment to a fair and lasting peace in the Middle East, I have decided that France will recognize the State of Palestine. I will officially announce this during the United Nations General Assembly next September."

Macron added: "The urgent priority now is to stop the war in Gaza and provide humanitarian aid to the civilian population of the sector. Peace is possible, and to achieve it, there must be an immediate ceasefire, the release of all hostages, and extensive humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza. It is also essential to ensure the disarmament of Hamas, and to secure and rebuild the sector."

Saudi Arabia, Jordan, the Palestinian Authority, Hamas, and Arab countries welcomed French President Emmanuel Macron's announcement of his intention to officially recognize the State of Palestine next September.

Palestinian Vice President Hussein Sheikh stated that this position represents France's commitment to international law and its support for the rights of the Palestinian people to self-determination and the establishment of their independent state.

For its part, Hamas confirmed that Macron's decision is a positive step in the right direction towards justice for our oppressed Palestinian people, and it represents a political development that reflects the growing international conviction of the justice of the Palestinian cause. It called on all countries, especially European ones, to follow France's lead in this regard. The movement considered that such international steps represent political and moral pressure on the occupation.

Saudi Arabia and France are set to co-chair the international conference on the future of the Palestinian state, scheduled to be held on July 28 and 29 at the United Nations headquarters in New York at the ministerial level.
