The Syrian government sent more than 40 trucks of humanitarian aid to the governorate of Suwayda, after the fighting in the city stopped and safe corridors were opened to it. Eyewitnesses confirmed that the trucks carry relief materials sent by the Syrian government to the city of Busra al-Sham in the eastern countryside of Daraa, in preparation for their entry into Suwayda.
The Syrian government announced a ceasefire in the city of Suwayda today (Sunday) after Druze groups regained control of the southern city and the Syrian government forces redeployed in the area that witnessed sectarian violence, which left around a thousand dead in one week.
The Ministry of Health announced the preparation of an urgent medical aid convoy to be sent to Suwayda, in response to the deteriorating humanitarian and medical situation in the governorate.
The ministry stated in a statement: In light of the emergency security developments in Suwayda, and in direct coordination with the governor, the Ministry of Health announces an immediate move to send the medical convoy, which includes 20 fully equipped ambulances, with specialized and highly prepared medical teams, and large quantities of medicines and first aid supplies.
The ministry pointed out that this convoy comes in response to the opening of safe corridors, and will depart in the next few hours, based on its national and professional duty to ensure the continuity of health services for all the people of Syria.
For his part, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio revealed that his country has been in contact with Israel, Jordan, and Damascus regarding developments in southern Syria.
Rubio called today (Sunday), via platform X, on the authorities in Damascus to preserve the opportunity for a unified Syria, and emphasized the need to hold accountable anyone involved in massacres in southern Syria, stressing that the fighting between Druze and Bedouin groups in southern Syria must stop.
The Syrian Ministry of Interior confirmed on Sunday the implementation of the ceasefire agreement in Suwayda.
Ministry spokesman Nour al-Din al-Baba added that after the strenuous efforts made by the interior ministry to implement the ceasefire agreement following the deployment of its forces in the northern and western regions of Suwayda governorate, the city was evacuated. Al-Baba confirmed that Suwayda is now free of all tribal fighters.
For its part, the Syrian Council of Tribes and Clans announced the removal of all its fighters from the city of Suwayda in accordance with the directives of the Syrian presidency regarding the ceasefire agreement, according to what the Syrian "Ikhbariya" channel reported. The council added that the removal of fighters from Suwayda came in compliance with the ceasefire decision.
