The Palestinian journalist Bashir Abu Sha'ar's offer to sell his camera for a bag of flour has sparked sympathy among social media users, who interacted with his post, while activists believe that this painful scene reveals the extent of the tragedy faced by the people of Gaza, who are subjected to a deadly siege imposed by the occupying authority amid displacement and hunger.
Bashir wrote on his official Facebook page: "I just want a bag of flour... I can no longer bear to see my children sleeping with empty stomachs," announcing his willingness to exchange his Canon D80K camera for something to feed his family.
In his post, he expressed his readiness to give up his personal camera, which represents his only source of income, in exchange for something to alleviate the hunger of his children who are suffering under the weight of the Israeli siege, exorbitant prices, and the exploitation of crisis merchants who raise the prices of products, especially food.
He added in his painful post: "Due to the exorbitant prices of flour and other food items, and the filthy exploitation by cash liquidity criminals, I have decided to exchange my camera for a bag of flour to feed my children. We can no longer bear the hardship of living and the oppression of hunger, and I will not wait for my children to die of hunger before my eyes."
Bashir's words were not just a painful offer, but a temporary declaration of surrender in the face of a worsening famine; his post was not merely an individual cry, but a stark expression of the tragic reality experienced by more than two million people in the Gaza Strip, where they are governed by the siege and silently devoured by hunger, amid skyrocketing prices and deadly exploitation by some crisis merchants.
Abu Sha'ar's post triggered a wide wave of interaction and solidarity on social media, with activists describing it as a "cry" to awaken the conscience of the international community to save the residents of Gaza before it is too late, warning of the lack of basic living conditions in the besieged and afflicted territory.
Other users expressed their shock at the extent of famine in Gaza reaching such a deadly level, emphasizing that what lies ahead is more dangerous than anyone can imagine.
One user revealed another disaster, stating that his fellow journalist offered to sell "his kidney" to escape the hell of Gaza with his family, saying: "Today, my colleague Abu Sha'ar is offering to exchange his camera for a bag of flour."
Users and activists called upon the international community, especially major influential countries, to stop the genocide in Gaza. They affirmed that what is happening in Gaza is a "documented testimony" of the crimes of the occupation.
