أكد مرصد «العراق الأخضر» المتخصص بشؤون البيئة، اليوم (الأربعاء)، أن العراق بحاجة إلى زراعة 15 مليار شجرة لمجابهة التغير المناخي والتصحر الممتد على أراضٍ تُقدر بنسبة 60%من مساحة البلاد، معتبراً أن العاصمة بغداد باتت غير صالحة للعيش نتيجة التلوث بالغازات فيها.
وقال بيان للمرصد إن «التصحر طال 60%من أراضي العراق، لذلك ينبغي العمل على تحويل هذه النسبة لمساحات خضراء، من خلال زراعة 15 مليار شجرة لمجابهة التغير المناخي الحاصل ودرجات الحرارة المرتفعة»، موضحاً أن «زراعة هذه الأشجار مهم لتكون مصدات للعواصف الغبارية والترابية والرملية، ومن أهم هذه الأشجار هي الصنوبريات والدودونيا، كونها أشجار تكون كبيرة وتتحمل الأجواء العراقية ومعمّرة وتعمل كمصدات وإمكانية أن تنمو بسرعة كبيرة».
وأشار إلى أن «الأجواء العراقية تعاني من انتشار الغازات فيها مثل غاز ثاني أكسيد الكربون، وهو ما يحصل في بغداد حالياً حتى باتت مدينة غير صالحة للعيش بسبب ارتفاع نسبة التلوث فيها، وهو ما يُقصد به انتشار الغازات، وهذه مشكلة كبيرة يجب إيجاد معالجات لها»، لافتاً إلى أن «المشكلة الأكبر تتمثل بأن زراعة الأشجار تحتاج إلى مياه، في وقت العراق يعاني من شح فيها، لهذا يجب أن تكون هناك طرق حديثة لسقي الأشجار وليس الاعتماد على الطرق القديمة بفتح الصنابير أو غيرها».
The "Green Iraq" Observatory, specialized in environmental issues, confirmed today (Wednesday) that Iraq needs to plant 15 billion trees to combat climate change and desertification affecting lands estimated at 60% of the country's area, considering that the capital, Baghdad, has become uninhabitable due to pollution from gases.
The Observatory's statement said, "Desertification has affected 60% of Iraq's lands, so efforts should be made to convert this percentage into green spaces by planting 15 billion trees to combat the ongoing climate change and high temperatures," explaining that "planting these trees is important to serve as barriers against dust, dirt, and sand storms. Among the most important of these trees are conifers and dodonia, as they are large trees that can withstand Iraqi weather, are long-lived, and can grow very quickly."
It pointed out that "Iraqi weather suffers from the spread of gases such as carbon dioxide, which is currently happening in Baghdad, making it an uninhabitable city due to the high level of pollution, which refers to the spread of gases. This is a significant problem that needs solutions," noting that "the bigger problem is that planting trees requires water, while Iraq is suffering from a shortage of it. Therefore, there should be modern methods for irrigating trees rather than relying on old methods like turning on taps or others."
