في تطور خطير للأحداث، شنت روسيا هجومًا جويًا هو الأضخم في تاريخ الحرب على أوكرانيا، مستخدمة 728 طائرة بدون طيار، وذلك بعد ساعات من تعهد الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب بتعزيز الدعم العسكري لكييف وتوجيهه انتقادات مباشرة وغير مسبوقة للرئيس الروسي فلاديمير بوتين.
وأفادت القوات الجوية الأوكرانية، عبر تطبيق «تليغرام»، أنها تمكنت من إسقاط معظم الطائرات المسيرة باستخدام أنظمة التشويش الإلكتروني.
وأكد الرئيس الأوكراني فولوديمير زيلينسكي أن هذا الهجوم، الذي يأتي ضمن سلسلة هجمات جوية متصاعدة خلال الأسابيع الأخيرة، يبرز الحاجة الملحة لفرض عقوبات حاسمة على مصادر تمويل الحرب الروسية، خصوصا ضد الدول التي تستورد النفط والغاز واليورانيوم من روسيا.
من جانبه، أعلن ترمب، خلال اجتماع لمجلس الوزراء أمس (الثلاثاء)، أنه يدرس دعم مشروع قانون في مجلس الشيوخ يفرض رسومًا جمركية بنسبة 500% على الدول التي تشتري الموارد الروسية، واصفًا تصريحات بوتين الودودة بأنها مجرد كلام فارغ.
في سياق موازٍ، تعكف أوروبا على إعداد حزمة عقوبات جديدة ضد موسكو.
ويأتي الهجوم في وقت يواصل فيه ترمب، الذي عاد إلى السلطة هذا العام واعدًا بإنهاء الحرب بسرعة، تغيير لهجة الولايات المتحدة من دعم قوي لأوكرانيا إلى قبول بعض مبررات روسيا للغزو الشامل الذي بدأ عام 2022.
ورغم قبول كييف لاقتراح ترمب بوقف إطلاق نار غير مشروط، إلا أن المفاوضات الأولية بين الطرفين لم تحقق تقدمًا ملموسًا.
جاء تعهد ترمب بتزويد أوكرانيا بمزيد من الأسلحة الدفاعية بعد قرار البنتاغون قبل أيام بتأخير إمدادات ذخائر حيوية، مما زاد من المخاوف في كييف مع تصاعد الهجمات الروسية.
وفي أعقاب هذا التعهد، أمر زيلينسكي بتوسيع التواصل مع واشنطن لضمان وصول إمدادات عسكرية حيوية، خصوصا أنظمة الدفاع الجوي.
كما يتوجه مبعوث ترمب لأوكرانيا، كيث كيلوغ، إلى روما اليوم (الأربعاء)، للمشاركة في مؤتمر دولي لدعم أوكرانيا يومي 10 و11 يوليو، بحضور زيلينسكي وحلفاء كييف الأوروبيين.
وأمضى سكان كييف ومدن أخرى الليل في ملاجئ مضادة للقصف ومحطات المترو، حيث استهدف الهجوم الروسي، بشكل رئيسي، مدينة لوتسك شمال غرب أوكرانيا، الواقعة على بعد 200 كيلومتر من حدود بولندا العضو في الناتو، إلى جانب 10 أقاليم أخرى أبلغت عن أضرار.
وأفاد حاكم إقليم فولين، إيفان رودنيتسكي، أن 50 طائرة مسيرة وخمسة صواريخ عبرت أجواء الإقليم. ووصف عمدة لوتسك، إيهور بوليشوك، الهجوم بأنه الأضخم على المدينة التي يقطنها 200 ألف نسمة، حيث تضررت منشأة تخزين ومواقف سيارات دون تسجيل إصابات أو وفيات، وأعلنت القيادة العملياتية البولندية تفعيل طائراتها وحلفائها لتأمين المجال الجوي.
In a serious development of events, Russia launched the largest aerial attack in the history of the war on Ukraine, using 728 drones, just hours after U.S. President Donald Trump pledged to enhance military support for Kyiv and directed unprecedented direct criticisms at Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The Ukrainian Air Force reported via the Telegram app that it managed to shoot down most of the drones using electronic jamming systems.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that this attack, which comes as part of a series of escalating airstrikes in recent weeks, highlights the urgent need to impose decisive sanctions on the sources of funding for the Russian war, especially against countries that import oil, gas, and uranium from Russia.
For his part, Trump announced during a Cabinet meeting yesterday (Tuesday) that he is considering supporting a bill in the Senate that would impose a 500% tariff on countries that purchase Russian resources, describing Putin's friendly remarks as mere empty talk.
In a parallel context, Europe is preparing a new package of sanctions against Moscow.
The attack comes at a time when Trump, who returned to power this year promising to end the war quickly, is shifting the U.S. tone from strong support for Ukraine to accepting some of Russia's justifications for the full-scale invasion that began in 2022.
Despite Kyiv's acceptance of Trump's proposal for an unconditional ceasefire, initial negotiations between the two sides have not made significant progress.
Trump's pledge to provide Ukraine with more defensive weapons followed the Pentagon's decision days ago to delay vital ammunition supplies, raising concerns in Kyiv as Russian attacks escalated.
In the wake of this pledge, Zelensky ordered an expansion of communication with Washington to ensure the delivery of vital military supplies, especially air defense systems.
Trump's envoy to Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, is also heading to Rome today (Wednesday) to participate in an international conference to support Ukraine on July 10 and 11, with the presence of Zelensky and Kyiv's European allies.
Residents of Kyiv and other cities spent the night in bomb shelters and metro stations, as the Russian attack primarily targeted the city of Lutsk in northwestern Ukraine, located 200 kilometers from the NATO member border of Poland, along with 10 other regions reporting damages.
The governor of the Volyn region, Ivan Rodnitsky, reported that 50 drones and five missiles crossed the region's airspace. The mayor of Lutsk, Ihor Polishchuk, described the attack as the largest on the city, which has a population of 200,000, where a storage facility and parking lots were damaged without any reported injuries or fatalities, and the Polish operational command announced the activation of its and its allies' aircraft to secure the airspace.
