ألقت الأجهزة الأمنية في محافظة المهرة جنوب شرق اليمن القبض على القيادي الحوثي محمد أحمد الزايدي المطلوب أمنياً أثناء محاولاته التخفي والفرار إلى خارج البلاد، وبحسب بيان السلطات الأمنية الذي نشرته وكالة الأنباء اليمنية «سبأ» فإن الأجهزة الأمنية والعسكرية لا تزال تلاحق عناصر خارجة عن القانون مرتبطة بالمقبوض عليه، تقف وراء قتل قائد كتيبة الدبابات باللواء 137 مشاة العقيد عبدالله زايد، وإصابة اثنين آخرين من أفراد القوة أثناء تعزيز القوات المتركزة في منفذ صرفيت الحدودي.
وقالت اللجنة الامنية بمحافظة المهرة في البيان إن الأجهزة المختصة بمنفذ صرفيت الحدودي أوقفت مساء أمس (الإثنين) أحد العناصر القيادية الحوثية المطلوبة للسلطات الأمنية، خلال محاولته مغادرة البلاد، مبينة أن محمد أحمد علي الزايدي، كان يحمل جوازاً دبلوماسياً، صادراً عن الحوثيين في صنعاء بصفة «ضابط في القوات المسلحة».
وأفاد البيان بأنه وبالتزامن مع إيقاف المذكور تم رصد سيارة تحمل مسلحين تابعين له يتمركزون خارج المنفذ، الأمر الذي استدعى رفع الجاهزية الأمنية وتعزيز الحراسات، واتخاذ التدابير الاحترازية لضمان أمن المنفذ وسلامة حركة العبور، مشيراً إلى أن قوة عسكرية تحركت من مدينة الغيضة باتجاه مديرية حوف لتعزيز المهمة الأمنية في المنفذ، لكنها تعرضت في منطقة دمقوت لكمين غادر نفذته عناصر مسلحة خارجة عن النظام والقانون، ما أسفر عن مقتل العقيد عبدالله زايد، قائد كتيبة الدبابات باللواء 137 مشاة، وإصابة اثنين آخرين من أفراد القوة.
وذكر البيان أن حملة مشتركة تواصل مهماتها لتعقب وضبط المتورطين في الهجوم الإرهابي، وردع كل من تسول له نفسه زعزعة الأمن والاستقرار والسكينة العامة في محافظة المهرة، مبينة أن الزايدي لا يزال قيد الاحتجاز لدى أجهزة الأمن في منفذ صرفيت تمهيداً لتسليمه إلى الجهات المعنية، واستكمال الإجراءات وفقاً للقانون.
وأشادت اللجنة بدور الأجهزة الأمنية، وقيادة ومنتسبي محور الغيضة، ويقظتهم العالية، وتضحياتهم الجسيمة من أجل الحفاظ على أمن واستقرار المهرة، وتعزيز النجاحات المشهودة التي تحققت للمحافظة خلال الفترة الماضية على المستويات كافة.
بدورها نقلت صحيفة الثورة الحكومية الرسمية عن ما وصفتها بـ«المصادر المطلعة» قولها إنه جرى تهريب الزايدي في ثلاجة سمك في محاولة يائسة لإخفائه عن أعين السلطات الحكومية.
The security forces in Al-Mahra Governorate, southeast Yemen, arrested the Houthi leader Muhammad Ahmed Al-Zaydi, who was wanted for security reasons, while he was attempting to disguise himself and flee the country. According to a statement from the security authorities published by the Yemeni News Agency "Saba," the security and military forces are still pursuing lawless elements linked to the arrested individual, who are behind the killing of the commander of the tank battalion in the 137th Infantry Brigade, Colonel Abdullah Zaid, and the injury of two other members of the force while reinforcing the troops stationed at the Al-Sarfait border crossing.
The security committee in Al-Mahra stated in the announcement that the relevant authorities at the Al-Sarfait border crossing stopped one of the Houthi leadership elements wanted by the security authorities last night (Monday) during his attempt to leave the country, indicating that Muhammad Ahmed Ali Al-Zaydi was carrying a diplomatic passport issued by the Houthis in Sana'a as a "military officer."
The statement noted that simultaneously with the arrest of the aforementioned individual, a vehicle carrying armed men affiliated with him was spotted stationed outside the crossing, which necessitated raising security readiness and enhancing guard measures, as well as taking precautionary measures to ensure the security of the crossing and the safety of transit movement. It pointed out that a military force moved from the city of Al-Ghaydah towards the Al-Houf Directorate to reinforce the security mission at the crossing, but it was ambushed in the Damqut area by armed elements outside the law, resulting in the death of Colonel Abdullah Zaid, the commander of the tank battalion in the 137th Infantry Brigade, and the injury of two other members of the force.
The statement mentioned that a joint campaign continues its missions to track down and apprehend those involved in the terrorist attack and deter anyone who dares to undermine security, stability, and public tranquility in Al-Mahra Governorate. It indicated that Al-Zaydi remains in custody with the security forces at the Al-Sarfait crossing in preparation for his handover to the relevant authorities and the completion of procedures according to the law.
The committee praised the role of the security forces, the leadership, and the personnel of the Al-Ghaydah axis, their high vigilance, and their significant sacrifices to maintain the security and stability of Al-Mahra, and to enhance the notable successes achieved by the governorate during the past period at all levels.
For its part, the official government newspaper Al-Thawra reported, citing what it described as "informed sources," that Al-Zaydi was smuggled in a fish freezer in a desperate attempt to hide him from the eyes of the government authorities.
