Local Iraqi media platforms circulated leaks discussing the possibility of the leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, reconsidering his decision to boycott the elections scheduled for February 11. This comes after a clear statement in which he confirmed his boycott of the elections with the word "مقاطعون" (boycotters) and signed it with his name under the title "المقاطع مقتدى الصدر."
Al-Sadr went further in his paper, stating: "The truth will not be established, nor will falsehood be repelled, except by handing over the loose weapons to the state, dissolving armed groups, strengthening the army and police, ensuring Iraq's independence and non-dependence, and striving diligently for reform and holding the corrupt accountable."
Al-Sadr's paper provoked some leaders of the groups, prompting the security official of the Hezbollah Brigades, Abu Ali al-Askari, to issue a statement (understood as a response to al-Sadr's statement) that included an attack and criticism.
Less than 24 hours after Abu Ali al-Askari's statement (which many believe refers to MP Hussein Mounis, the head of the Rights Movement in the Iraqi Parliament), a video surfaced of the killer of the well-known writer Hisham al-Hashimi, who was assassinated five years ago by (Ahmed Hamdawi Owaid Maraj), who works as a police officer with the rank of first lieutenant in the Ministry of Interior (later released). In the video, he confesses that the order to assassinate al-Hashimi came from MP Hussein Mounis.
Here, the Iraqi Supreme Judicial Council intervened with a statement saying that "the released suspect in the case of Hisham al-Hashimi's assassination did not mention in his statements what was mentioned in the leaked video."
Hours after the Supreme Judicial Council's statement, other documents related to the investigative testimony of the suspect before the investigative committee were leaked.
These conflicts confirm that Iraq is heading towards a very large war of files, especially those related to some armed groups that refuse to hand over their weapons and dissolve themselves, which gives a bleak outlook on what these groups will do if pressured to surrender their arms, and what documents will emerge in the future regarding the killings and seizures they have carried out over the past years?
