عثرت السلطات الفرنسية على النائب الجمهوري أوليفييه مارليكس (54 عاماً)، مُنتحراً في منزله الواقع في بلدة أني شمال مدينة درو بوسط فرنسا.
وأكدت وسائل الإعلام المحلية العثور عليه مشنوقاً في الطابق العلوي من المنزل، بعد غيابه المفاجئ عن لقاء رسمي كان مقرراً له مع عمدة البلدية، ما دفع السلطات إلى فتح تحقيق عاجل.
وفي أول تعليق رئاسي، نعى الرئيس إيمانويل ماكرون النائب الراحل عبر منصة «إكس»، واصفاً إياه بـ«رجل السياسة المحنّك» الذي «كان يدافع عن أفكاره بقناعة». وأضاف ماكرون: «كنت أحترم خلافاتنا، إذ كانت تُعبر عن حبنا المشترك للوطن».
من جهته، قال رئيس كتلة الجمهوريين في الجمعية الوطنية، لوران فوكييه: «لن ننسى رجل المبادئ، المدافع العنيد عن المصلحة العامة، الذي ارتقى بالنقاش العام عبر رؤيته الثاقبة».
وفي ردود أخرى، قالت رئيسة كتلة التجمع الوطني مارين لوبان: «كان نائباً ميدانياً، دقيقاً، ملتزماً بخدمة أفكاره».
مارليكس، الذي كان أباً لابنتين وهو ابن الوزير السابق آلان مارليكس، بدأ مسيرته البرلمانية عام 2012 حين فاز بمقعده في إير إي لوار، بعيداً عن منطقة كانتال التي ينحدر منها والده.
عرف مارليكس بأنه سياسي محافظ يتمتع بأسلوب كلاسيكي متزن، وقد استفاد بشكل غير مباشر من هزائم حزبه لتبوؤ مناصب برلمانية مهمة.
كان مارليكس من المناصرين للديغولية ومن أشد المعارضين لماكرون، وتصدر في 2019 تحقيقاً برلمانياً بشأن صفقة استحواذ شركة جنرال إلكتريك الأمريكية على فرع الطاقة لشركة ألستوم، وهو التحقيق الذي أثار جدلاً في وقت كان ماكرون وزيراً للاقتصاد.
عُرف عن مارليكس معارضته الشديدة لماكرون ولعدد من أعضاء حزب الجمهوريين السابقين الذين انضموا إلى الأغلبية الحكومية، مثل جيرالد دارمانان الذي اتهمه مراراً بالكذب، وكذلك إدوار فيليب رئيس الوزراء السابق.
في 2021، أصدر مارليكس كتاباً بعنوان «المصادرون» (Les Liquidateurs)، ناقش فيه ما أسماه تأثير الماكرونية على فرنسا وسبل مواجهتها.
ترك مارليكس بصمة بارزة في الحياة السياسية الفرنسية، وتركت وفاته أثراً عميقاً في الأوساط السياسية والإعلامية في البلاد.
The French authorities found Republican Deputy Olivier Marleix (54 years old) dead by suicide in his home located in the town of Anney, north of the city of Dreux in central France.
Local media confirmed that he was found hanged in the upper floor of the house, after his sudden absence from a scheduled official meeting with the mayor, prompting authorities to open an urgent investigation.
In his first presidential comment, President Emmanuel Macron mourned the late deputy via the "X" platform, describing him as a "seasoned politician" who "defended his ideas with conviction." Macron added: "I respected our disagreements, as they expressed our shared love for the homeland."
For his part, the head of the Republican group in the National Assembly, Laurent Wauquiez, said: "We will not forget the man of principles, the staunch defender of the public interest, who elevated public debate through his keen vision."
In other reactions, the head of the National Rally group, Marine Le Pen, stated: "He was a field deputy, precise, committed to serving his ideas."
Marleix, who was a father of two daughters and the son of former minister Alain Marleix, began his parliamentary career in 2012 when he won his seat in Eure-et-Loir, far from the Cantal region where his father hails from.
Marleix was known as a conservative politician with a balanced classical style, and he indirectly benefited from his party's defeats to hold important parliamentary positions.
He was a supporter of Gaullism and one of Macron's fiercest opponents, leading a parliamentary investigation in 2019 into the acquisition of Alstom's energy branch by the American company General Electric, a probe that stirred controversy at a time when Macron was Minister of Economy.
Marleix was known for his strong opposition to Macron and several former members of the Republicans party who joined the government majority, such as Gérald Darmanin, whom he repeatedly accused of lying, as well as former Prime Minister Édouard Philippe.
In 2021, Marleix published a book titled "The Liquidators" (Les Liquidateurs), in which he discussed what he called the impact of Macronism on France and ways to confront it.
Marleix left a significant mark on French political life, and his death had a profound impact on the political and media circles in the country.
