Israeli media described the government meeting chaired by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu last night to discuss Hamas's response to the Gaza ceasefire proposal as "stormy." Channel 14 revealed that the far-right Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich and Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir exchanged "shouting" during the session that lasted about 5 hours.

It reported that "Netanyahu banged on the table, demanding that Smotrich and Zamir change their personal approach and turn it into an objective discussion."

The ministers voted in the meeting in favor of establishing humanitarian aid zones that would separate the residents of the Gaza Strip from Hamas, but National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich voted against sending aid to northern Gaza by trucks "until those humanitarian zones are established," claiming that "the aid falls into the hands of Hamas."

Following the meeting, Netanyahu's office stated that Hamas is seeking to make "unacceptable" changes to the ceasefire proposal in Gaza.

Netanyahu's office rejected early today (Sunday) the changes that Hamas is seeking to make to the terms of the truce; nevertheless, the Prime Minister decided to send a delegation to Doha for indirect talks with the movement.

As the negotiating team departs for the Qatari capital today, Netanyahu will head to Washington to meet with U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House on Monday.

The discussions, mediated by Qatar, Egypt, and the United States, focus on agreeing to a ceasefire for 60 days in Gaza, the release of hostages still held by Hamas, estimated to be around 50, both alive and deceased according to Israeli estimates.

Efforts to secure a temporary ceasefire have stalled for months, but mediators recently presented a proposal that reportedly calls for a cessation of hostilities in the Gaza Strip for at least 60 days, a gradual release of Israeli hostages, and the return of the remains of those killed.

In return, a large number of Palestinian prisoners will be released from Israeli prisons, and during the ceasefire period, both sides will attempt to negotiate a permanent end to the war.

Hamas announced that it has submitted its "positive response" to the latest mediation proposal to Qatar and Egypt. A movement official stated that further clarification is needed regarding the continuation of the ceasefire after the initial 60-day period, the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza, and unrestricted access to humanitarian aid in the region.

According to the U.S. President, Israel agreed to the "necessary conditions" for a ceasefire several days ago.
