The Yemeni Prime Minister, Salem Saleh bin Brek, today (Sunday) directed the preparation of a realistic, chronic, and executable plan to restart the Aden refineries, to fulfill their vital role in securing the local market's needs for petroleum derivatives and supporting the national economy, considering them one of the main economic and investment pillars of the city of Aden.

During his chairing of the Aden refineries leadership in the temporary capital, Aden, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of supporting the implementation of the Cabinet's decision to restore the refineries' activity in accordance with the free zone system, as they are located within the Aden Free Zone, Sector (A), and according to what was practiced before the cessation of this activity in 2015. He stressed the importance of activating the role of the refineries in storage, supplying ships, re-exporting, and producing asphalt and other materials.

He pointed out that restoring the significance of this strategic facility requires everyone to bear their responsibilities and work in a spirit of teamwork, reviewing clarifications regarding several issues related to restarting the refineries, the obstacles they face, and proposals to solve them, including efforts to complete the first phase of the power station project, its activity as a free zone, in addition to the tank and ship supply, refining, importing derivatives, and monitoring their quality.

He noted that in the coming days, two units for producing asphalt will be restarted to cover all local market needs, in addition to completing work on the diesel and mazut refining unit with a production capacity of 6,000 barrels per day, stressing the need to overcome the imbalances that prevailed in previous periods, while holding accountable anyone proven to be involved in corrupt practices or negligence that contributed to the disruption of this vital economic edifice.

The Prime Minister urged the leadership of the refineries to focus on preparing comprehensive modernization plans based on economic feasibility that achieve a qualitative leap in performance, production, and services.
