Security information provided to the international coalition forces in Iraq and the Syrian government revealed movements of ISIS elements along the border strip between Iraq and Syria.
According to the information obtained by Iraqi intelligence, the terrorist organization intends to launch attacks on the Syrian prisons adjacent to the Iraqi border where leaders and members of the organization are held, with the aim of freeing them.
The international coalition in Iraq has requested the Baghdad government to reinforce its forces along the border strip with Syria ahead of the security campaign that the coalition will launch in cooperation with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) against ISIS in the Syrian desert, reaching the Iraqi border.
Iraqi sources informed "Okaz" that the higher authorities in Baghdad have been notified that a major operation will be conducted on the Iraqi-Syrian border, although no date has been specified.
The sources confirmed that the anticipated operation will be led by SDF forces, with air and logistical support from the international coalition, alongside the participation of fighters from the Free Syrian Army stationed in the Al-Tanf area, located at the triangle border between Syria, Iraq, and Jordan.
Security sources revealed on Saturday that the joint Iraqi security agencies responsible for securing the border strip with Syria have detected an unprecedented military buildup of vehicles and armed individuals by armed groups under the pretext of freeing their foreign leaders from prisons located near the shared border with Iraq.
According to the sources, the Iraqi government has prepared strategic plans to confront any scenario from these armed groups, and the joint forces of various combat and intelligence types are monitoring movements with thermal cameras and reconnaissance forces with great attention along the shared Iraqi border with Syria. It was mentioned that additional reinforcements have been sent to the forces present to maintain security and prevent any breach.
