In a striking post published late last night, U.S. President Donald Trump urged Israel and Hamas to reach a ceasefire and prisoner exchange deal in Gaza. Trump wrote on his platform "Truth Social": "Make the deal in Gaza... and bring back the hostages."
The post, which contained only 6 words, lacked any additional details; however, according to observers, it includes a clear call for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to finalize the ceasefire agreement as soon as possible.
Trump announced today (Sunday) that Netanyahu is negotiating a deal with Hamas to return those held captive in the Gaza Strip. He expressed his solidarity with him and criticized his trial on corruption charges, which he described as a "witch hunt" that could affect diplomatic efforts in the region. He stated in a post on his platform "Truth Social" on Saturday evening: "This farce called justice will impact negotiations with Iran and Hamas," noting that Netanyahu is currently negotiating a deal with Hamas that includes the return of the hostages.
Trump had predicted on Friday the possibility of reaching a ceasefire in Gaza within a week.
Prior to Trump's statements, a rally of tens of thousands of anti-war protesters was organized in "Hostages Square" in Tel Aviv on Saturday, demanding an end to the Gaza war and the return of remaining captives.
The Israeli newspaper "Yedioth Ahronoth" reported that a political source said President Donald Trump wants to end the war in the Gaza Strip as soon as possible. The source revealed that the idea of shortening the timeline for the U.S. special envoy Steve Whitcomb's plan regarding Gaza has been proposed.
Officials informed Israeli Channel 13 that the Prime Minister of the occupation will discuss during his upcoming visit to the U.S. capital, Washington, ending the fighting in Gaza and reaching new peace agreements. The officials stated that Netanyahu plans to visit the White House within the next two weeks.
The channel reported that military officials confirmed they would inform the political level today (Sunday) that the ground operation in Gaza is nearing its end and that it cannot continue without putting the lives of the hostages at risk.
